I was born in a quaint North Yorkshire market town to middle class parents where I festered for many years under wayward tutelage and a general dissatisfaction with the pedestrian nature of my upbringing. I began to immerse myself in fine literature, arts, music and cinema in the hope that I may find relief from the realities of Northern living in the joys of my own imagination. During one of my soul searching travels to far away shores I was to find that this preoccupation with dreaming would open up a whole new world of oppertunity and achievement and now you see me a fine English gentleman of excellent prospects... For you see within one of my more lucid and enveloping dreams I saw a great and noble city... a city of pearl... with buildings topped by crystal spires... and within this city a young maiden dressed all in white lead me to a mighty temple... she wispered that I was to meet the wise man and that he would enlighten me as to the ways of prosperity... Inside I knelt before him with my head bowed for his face was too bright for my eyes to focus upon without causing damage... He was indeed a wise and learned man... He was a Seer of incredible power... His words comforted me so deeply that when I awoke in a horrendous fever I tipped the pug faced servant that had catered for my stricken body with all the currency I had left for my travels and spent the next few years wandering back to my place of origin indulging in many sinful things and accumulating much... When I finally returned I found that my entire family had mysteriously died and that I was now the sole heir to the Carline estate including that of my distantly related but extremely wealthy half-cousins and my miserly uncle who it seemed had made a small fortune in real estate whilst I was away. And this is where the story of my origin ends... Their deaths were never explained, some say it was a disease that took them, others say poison from the local mines, this would explain the bizarre crystaline deposits that they found around their mouths... but I am often chilled when late at night I dream in incoherant segmants of pearl cities... Of crystal spires... Of maidens dressed in white... and of bright, unbearably bright faces... And of those words that now echo in my head, no longer comforting... "When you return home, fine sir... Everything shall be yours..."
