Hailing from Chicago, Illinois; Drew Fortson has made it his mission to stand out amongst a sea of singer-songwriters and acoustic performers. Drawing from artistic influences such as John Mayer, Damien Rice, Death Cab for Cutie, and Denison Witmer; Fortson matches earnest vocals with honest lyrics while creating a landscape for this indie-pop fusion.His Debut album, 'The Apprentice and the Ghost' was released independently in October 2006. The music itself is a rich blend of folk and acoustic pop, the result of which is a musical score smooth enough to curl up with on a rainy day yet dashed with enough excitement to lift you out of lethargy. Incredibly well crafted, Fortson creates audioscapes that are as subtle and emotive as his lyrics. Alternately resonant and driving, or subdued and contemplative, each melody is felt in the heart while becoming a fixture in your head. The only way Fortson is able to create such resonance so consistently throughout, from first track to last, is that each arrangement was made with conviction and the purpose of making you feel the narratives as much as hear them.Having spent the past year performing coffee shops, restaurants, and bars across the greater Chicago land area, Fortson has won over audiences with his enthusiastic and energetic live performance.
