"Everyone knows and loves these guys—and why wouldn't they? DJs Bart Blackstone and Atari have been behind some of San Diego's best parties for more than a decade. Their disco-rocking events at Whistle Stop Bar and The Casbah always leave you dripping with sweat and even a few tears. God bless One Nation." - San Diego CityBeat
"One Nation fills the place from front to back and out onto the sidewalk at least once a month for their electro nights. " Phil B., Yelp!
One Nation started out as a series of underground parties around San Diego in the late eighties and has been going strong in one form or another ever since. The club started in the era before rave, more in line with Soul II Soul's warehouse parties in South London, Area in New York or clubs like Power Tools in LA. Venues have ranged from old 1930's big band dancehalls to cultural centers to abandoned warehouses - in the late 80's and early 90's downtown SD was just beginning redevelopment and there were tons of cool old warehouses to be found.
One Nation is known for an eclectic mix of party rocking music - born during the "golden age" of hip-hop (ON was first to play groups like Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy or Rob Base in SD) to New York new wave and no wave to the birth of chicago house and detroit electro - One Nation has always been known for bringing together a diverse group of people on the dancefloor.
In the late 90's One Nation was a staple at the Green Circle Bar and later the early Livewire. Later Blackstone & Atari released (with the help of NY designers Bill McMullen and Gerry V) the classic "Hanzo Steel" series of remixes of the Kill Bill soundtrack. Nowdays you can find the club at it's permanent dual homes of the Whistle Stop and the Casbah.
