Music:

Yes. Listening and playing. Quality over genre or hipster quotient. Haydn, Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, and Tchaikovski(esp. a certain Violinkonzerte in Dm, Opus 35), to Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Queen, Soundgarden, Led Zepp, Cat Stevens, Tool, Leo Kottke, RUSH, accoustic, old metal, Latin, African and Middle Eastern music. I'm not that esoteric: usually I like a huge range of music. Oh, but I do have an irrational hatred for Christmas music.

Movies:

Big yes. Royal Tennenbaums, The Piano, The Mission, Pulp Fiction, Blue, Harold and Maude, I (heart) Huckabees, Spinal Tap, Night of the Iguana, Sheltering Sky, works from Almodovar, Egoyan and Sally Potter, Big Lewbowski, Monty Python, The Philadelphia Story (1940), Amelie, The Pillow Book, Smilla's Sense of Snow, Gattaca, Elizabeth, The Third Man, Gods and Monsters, Como Agua Para Chocolate, Young Frankenstein, Antonio Gaudi, Buena Vista Social Club, Suspira, Best in Show, Requiem for a Dream, Monsoon Wedding, Bottlerocket, Dead Man, Parker Posey, Christopher Guest, the Spanish language, and foxy British men. Recently: Little Miss Sunchine, Born into Brothels, My Architect, Parrots of Telegraph Hill. Great!

Television:

Not so much. Sometimes I learn things: watch Discovery Channel's Planet Earth series!

Books:

Nabokov, Poe and deBeauvoir, osteology, the Chicago Manual of Style, and David Sedaris. On my shelf right now: Wallace Stegner, a friend's thesis, Einstein's Ideas and Opinions, Bill Bryson, Gary Larson, Kiterunner, Buddhism, forensics, nutritional anthropology, environment/nature stuff, a ton of articles on pediatric obesity, and The Snow Leopard. Magazines: The New Yorker, National Geographic, Dwell, Plenty, Metropolitan Home. I'm a closet Sudoku player.

Heroes:
