The Absolute Truth About Me - I Don't Believe In Absolute Truths

About Me

.. Read my VisualDNA ™ Get your own VisualDNA™
On the verge of giving up the nine to five - well, 6pm to 3am - before I have to kill somebody, most likely an investment bank analyst with an attitude surpassing my own. Of course, if do up and leave the rat race altogether, don't ask me how I'll survive now that I've gotten used to the comforts of my own home, nice clothes, shoes, food... Who's gonna pay my mortgage?
My first feature length script, "Passed Caring" was recently awarded Best Screenplay at the 2006 Independent Black Film Festival, Atlanta, USA, and now, with companies like Focus Features asking to read it, all I do is dream about exchanging my current hellish existence (investment banks are the devil's cesspit - but they pay well) for another spookily alluring one (Hollywood, anyone?).
Oh well, a change is, they say, as good as a rest... But wait! There's always the low budget, independent, film festival and art house screened, MySpace hyped, straight to DVD market - and hip trounces trendy, any day - who cares if there's a few zeros missing from the paycheck?
OK... everything above was written in April '06 and Focus Features never called... Still working, but at another gaddam bank! New strategy for '07...? Watch this space!

My Interests

Shoes (mostly the kind I can't really afford - have credit...), Writing (not prolific enough), Reading (don't do as much as I could/should), Sex (don't get as much as I could - or should - but think it underpins so much of the human experience, consciously or otherwise), Yoga (to keep mind, body and soul together and to compensate for the "dry spells"), Life (well, ocassionally - other times it just bores me stupid), Thinking (sometimes too much), Sleeping...zzz zzz zzz

Frolicking in Hyde park... and Little Venice/Paddington Basin (pics courtesy of "Meir" and Trentski - Easter Sunday, 2007)
Oh yes... and I likes to ParTAY! Pics from Tambay's Brooklyn Bash, New York - October 2006. Again, pics courtesy of "Meir".

I'd like to meet:

As I continue to learn more about myself, anyone who can help the learning process; particulary independent black film makers on any side of the pond...

... and SKYPErs!

... and peopele intent on Growing Older Disgracefully!!

Fashionistas et al... never mind what the new black is - 60 is fast becoming the new 40, 40 the new 30, and being old the new… well, NEW… or at least re-newed!

So where can you, from the experience and wisdom of someone who's probably older, wiser and sexier than you, learn the secrets to great sex appeal into and well passed your supposed prime...?

Go on... GROW OLDER DISGRACEFULLY! You know you want to!!

Here's a clip from BEAUTIFUL THINGS, a gem of a movie by my friend, Tambay , which pretty much sums up the way I feel most of the time... Enjoy.

Music:

Hate fave lists, ever changing and evolving... Tend towards Soul, Jazz Funk, Acid Jazz - Omar, Brand New Heavies, Incognito, Drizabone - but anything that inspires me from Queen to Fela Kuti, to Outkast (particularly Andre Benjamin's Love Below), to pop cheese like Kylie can keep me happy.

Movies:

Hate fave lists, ever changing and evolving... think most movies are actually over-rated, but off the top of my head: Dangerous Liaisons, Last Tango in Paris, A Streetcar Named Desire, Being John Malkovich, Secretary, Mo Better Blues, Sound of Music (no, really), Fiddler on The Roof, The Wizard of Oz, Mulholland Drive, Reqiem for A Dream, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Sideways, The Sixth Sense, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, In the Mood for Love, In Her Shoes, Happiness, Sylvia, The Butterfly Effect, Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, Closer, Abouna, Bamboozled, Dogville, Manderlay, Shadows, Requiem for a Dream, Beautiful Things , 20:30:40, Opening Night, 8 1/2, Daratt, Lust Caution, Scenes From A Marriage...

Television:

Don't watch much these days, it's usually background noise (VH1, MTV, CNN, BBC News 24). Did love SATC, Frasier, Six Feet Under, Cold Feet

Books:

Hate fave lists, ever changing and evolving... Chinua Achebe, Things Fall Apart; Ralph Ellison, Invisible Man; most anything by Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou

Heroes:

Anyone who can keep going in the face of adversity

A Working Holiday

So last September I decided to take a month off the grindstone that is 9-5 (or, in my case, 1.00am to 8.30am) and visit friends in the US enroute to/from a well deserved one week of sun, sea and so on...

Imus: My 50 Cents Worth

Hip-hop may not be the sole root of the problem, but successful, mass produced hip-hop is certainly not blameless. Throughout America's short history (i.e. post Columbus), the denigration and ruinatio...

Oh, the Impestuousity of it All!
