Meir

Yes, I am.

About Me

"A female Shakespeare of your time
With looks to blow Picasso's mind
You were the best
Your body moved with grace and song
Like symphonies by Bach or Brahms
Nevertheless..."
(Stevie Wonder)
I am a photographer.
I love art.
Artists.
The Arts.
I am a former professional dancer.
I'm still a child at heart.
Sometimes I'm a poet. I've even
painted and drawn and glued a few things.
I play no instruments.
Okay, maybe the tambourine.
And the xylophone a little bit.
But I cannot sing. Well,
I sound as good as Sinead O'Connor and
better than Yoko Ono. I probably
could front a punk band.
Hell YEAH I can sing!
I am also...
A Beauty Pageant Winner!
I am "Ms. Travel Agent 2007"!
I am indeed a travel agent.
A full-time professional one.
And by "professional", I have a "CTC"
(Certified Travel Counselor) designation
behind my name. The same as a lawyer
(Esq.) or an accountant (CPA).
Judging from my title, I'm officially
the hottest travel professional
IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD!
I travel a lot. I am my own most
dedicated travel customer.
I have friends all over the world.
Photography is my passion.
Here's a sampling of my photography.
In no particular order, my friends
and some family - Osiris, Namiko,
Naim, Trent, Steve, Carl, Aminah,
Dara, Wendy, Brian, Kelsey, Lily,
Gunner, Courtney, Autumn, Sabena and
Tambay.
These photos were taken in Philadelphia,
London, Amsterdam, Brooklyn
and Montego Bay Jamaica:
I shoot myself the most.
I am also a writer.
Some would call me a "Power Novelist".
In May, 2007, I wrote a 50,226-word novel
in 23 days.
I am in the process of editing it into a
readable, cohesive novel for the masses.
I am very proud of myself.
I write lots of blogs as well.
Please read & enjoy.
This is a poem written for me by my friend
Byron(Nhala). It was for my 34th birthday:
Sugar
by Nhala
Look at that smile, beautiful child
Light up the world, beautiful girl
With that radiant smile
Radiant woman, radiant style
A radiant pirouette of pearls
A dancing, twirling, and swirling
Flying Angel
A celestial brightness
Not of this world
You make this world a better place
May these words bless us
With another smile on your face
'Cause on this day
The world sings out your name
Without you this world
Would not be the same
All the best to you Angel
Happy Solar Return sugar
And Happy Birthday

My Interests

I am Capricorn, here me bleat!

There is a peculiar nut in the Seychelle Islands that bears my name. It's called the "Coco de Mer." My French is rather rusty, but it loosely translates to "Molten Chocolate Mary."

I'd like to meet:

Lovers and fighters,

Painters and writers,

Dancers and jugglers,

Contraband smugglers,

Gigolos and hooligans,

Afro-Blacks and Indians,

Dream-weavers and militants

With lots of cash or 50 cents

Chinese and Puerto Ricans,

Bible-thumpers and Wiccans,

biker chicks and punk-rockers,

Nappy heads and dread lockers

Bartenders and alcoholics,

Those who read, those who frolic...

I really love my friends!

Music:

My list of musical favorites runs much longer than the following list: Sananda Maitreya (formerly Terence Trent D'Arby), Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, Michael Franks, KRS One, Raphael Saadiq, Grace Jones, Diana Ross, Jimi Hendrix, Tina Turner, Carol King, Sly and the Family Stone, P-Funk, Michael Jackson, Prince, Milton Nascimento, Miriam Makeba, Sade, Klymaxx, Sting, Diane Reeves, James Taylor, Johnny Cash, Kurtis Blow, Rakim, GrandMaster Flash & the Furious Five, Steely Dan, Mary J Blige, Cyndi Lauper, Queen, Bob Marley, John Hiatt, Madonna, LadySmith Black Mambazo, Peter Gabriel, Hootie & the Blowfish, Fishbone, Nancy Wilson and many many more.

Movies:

The only first-run movies I see are mainly children's movies with my son. I have a short attention span, so I love movies that are either shot on location or otherwise visually appealing.
"Hideous Kinky" was Kate Winslett's next movie after "Titanic." It was a beautiful film shot(I believe) in Morocco.
"Dirty Pretty Things" is one of my all-time favorites. It's set in London. Sophie Okonedo was fantastic in this movie, pre-dating her success in "Hotel Rwanda."
"Chocolat" combined my 4 favorite things: chocolate, red pumps, Johnny Depp and beautiful scenery.
"Living Out Loud" starring Holly Hunter & Queen Latifah was a gawd-awful movie, but combined another 2 of my favorite decadent things: dirty-dancing in bars and "special" in-home massages given by strappy, buff, mute eye candy.
"Beautiful Things" combines three more of my guilty pleasures - buff manly arms, exotic accents and erotic feet-washing. Produced, directed by and starring my friend Tambay A. Obenson , it's got beefcake, cheesecake - and a thoughtful storyline to boot!

Books:

"Nappy Edges"* by Ntozake Shange more or less defines my outlook on life as a nappy-headed woman.

*the roots of your hair/what
turns back when we sweat, run,
make love, dance, get afraid, get
happy, the tell-tale sign of living/

"My House" by Nikki Giovanni made me anxious to grow up or at least be a teenager, so that I could fall in love and write poetry about it. And so that I could "smile at old men and call it revolution. 'Cause what's real is REALLY real..."

The Te of Piglet broke down the Taoist principles of virtuosity, using Pooh's small friend as a prime example. Again, breaking it down for deep-as-a-kiddie-pool thinkers like me.

Heroes:

I'm from Philadelphia. I call them Hoagies.
