About Me

Hmm, let's see. I'm the publisher of a magazine called This Magazine (www.thismagazine.ca). I play drums and know lots of really good knock knock jokes involving drummers. Right now, I am really excited cause I am writing an essay for the new uTOpia book that Coach House is publishing. I use the term "writing" loosely cause mostly I've just been sitting at my computer thinking about writing or boring my friends by talking about writing. The actual act of writing has yet to transpire. I have a kitten named Atticus, but lately I've been calling him Zissou (it's the whole Life Aquatic thing). I had really weird dreams last night cause I ate cheese before going to bed which I didn't know you're not supposed to do (thanks Matthew!). Right now I'm really into: Trinity Bellwoods Park, broccoli, playing in a band, taking pictures with a camera that's older than me, obscure Pavement songs, painting, learning to play guitar, silk screening, 80s films that glamourize excessive cocaine use, being the most impatient DJ ever, cutting the necklines of all my T-shirts, non-fiction, documentaries about dead or fictional rock stars and really strong coffee. I have really small ears. I am obsessed with pop culture and Tom Cruise's total divorce from reality. If you look under my bed you'll find a stack of US Weekly mags. They're under the New Yorkers.

My Interests

procrastination, live music, making spreadsheets, singing in the shower, playing drums, board games, making documentaries, polaroid cameras, pop culture trivia, red wine, peanut butter cookies from the bakery in Kensington Market, British music magazines, pig tails, shirts with stripes, tax evasion

I'd like to meet:

Someone with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel. A tall person to change the lightbulb that just burnt out in my living room. Andrew McCarthy circa Pretty in Pink. Someone that can explain the appeal of My Chemical Romance or Fall Out Boy. People who want to talk about how batshit insane Tom Cruise is. Someone who wants to file my back taxes. Someone with a stockpile of super 8 film.

Music:

Right now: Kayne West (don't be judgin', try not to shake your ass to "Gold Digger") OK Computer, anything by Guided by Voices, Sonic Youth and, always, always Pavement. Oh, and old Police albums cause I'm learning how to drum like Stewart Copeland.

Movies:

Annie Hall, Some Kind of Wonderful, Belle de Jour, Ghost World, Fear eats the Soul, Repulsion, Lost in Translation, Husbands and Wives, Blue Velvet, Valley of the Dolls, Breathless (bonus points for pretention), The Amateur, Midnight Cowboy, Broken Flowers

Television:

Arrested Development, Sex and the City, Twin Peaks, That 70's Show, What Not to Wear, anything that begins with the words, " The E True Hollywood Story of..." and yes, yes, I watch reality tv, and their affiliated marathons

Books:

Right now: Simply Accounting: A Dummies Guide

Heroes:

My mom.
