Dorothy 6 is Lauri Mancuso's newest art and performance venue in the borough of Braddock, PA. Lauri named this new gallery spot which is located 6 miles from down town Pittsburgh in the Allegheny County borough of Braddock after a dismantled Duquesne blast Furnace. When Dorothy 6 was in operation, it employed many of the residents of the Mon Valley, and when US Steel decided to sell the furnace for scrap, it meant the loss of many jobs and began the decline of the Mon Valley's economy including Braddock's.
Braddock is still home to United States Steel Corporation’s J. Edgar Thomson Works which is in operation. It is also home to America’s oldest Carnegie Library and is across the street from Dorothy 6. Dorothy 6 is on the 1st floor of the residence of the Mayor of Braddock, John K. Fetterman who is actively encouraging artists to come and use free studio space in the Ohringer Building on Braddock Ave.Monthly exhibitions at Dorothy 6 are welcome to all ages and are free of charge for opening receptions which will be held on Fridays, generally and will rotate new exhibitions monthly. Events will often incorporate the pew-less, vaulted ceilinged church next door for live music and performance events.Mancuso will continue to offer an exhibition space for the sole purpose of providing our region's artists and musicians an alternative platform to exhibit their work. She will continue to collaborate with fellow curator, local promoter, artist, musician, DJ, and former events coordinator of Pittsburgh's Warhol Museum, Edgar Um who will continue to bring nationally touring musicians and performers that may otherwise never be presented along with artists from across the globe.Mancuso has curated hundreds of exhibits in the Pittsburgh area since 2000 at Garfield Artworks until 2004, Spinning Plate Gallery, Arrow Gallery which she owned and operated, Wilkinsburg's, Paint & Body www.paintandbody.org, and most recently ON in Garfield. She has managed to exhibit the work of nationally and internationally recognized artists and musicians, and maintains a focus on locals. She will continue to encourage artists of all medium and levels of expertise to submit samples of their work for exhibition and provide our region with an innovative and versatile venue for the arts.
