In addition to Indian kirtan music...Paul Simon, The Rolling Stones, CCR, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Prince, The Flaming Lips, REM, U2, Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, Dave Matthews, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Pearl Jam, Jane's Addiction, Jack Johnson, Bob Marley....

Movies:

Napoleon Dynamite, Forrest Gump, The Wizard of Oz, Thelma & Louise, What's Up Doc, Lost in Translation and of course anything else with Bill Murray, Hotel Rwanda, The Shawshank Redemption, Jean de Florette, The Silence of the Lambs, Natural Born Killers, Amelie, It's a Wonderful Life, Singin' In the Rain, Il Postino, Crash, Saved!, Donnie Darko, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Shrek 1 and 2...yes, I have kids and thank god for Pixar.

Television:

I try to avoid it, but have trouble resisting Gray's Anatomy, Huff, Weeds, Oprah, and any I Love Lucy rerun will always stop me for a good 30 minutes...

Books:

Anything by John Steinbeck, esp. East of Eden; Historical American biographies, esp. Eleanor Roosevelt vol 1 & 2 by Blanch Weisen Cooke; Most Stephen King books; The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran; The Kite Runner; Reading Lolita in Tehran; Lolita; The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri; anything by Jennifer Weiner; and of course all of the Nancy Drew Yellow Hardcover books from The Secret of the Old Clock to The Thirteenth Pearl - own and read them all many times as a child.
