About Me

...I'm so vain, you'll probably think this blurb is about me...

If this amuses you, I'm sure we'd get along swimmingly. Epecially if you read, too. While this remark will inevitably increase my nerdiness, I'd like to point out a few items of note:a) expanding (a + b)^n is an infinite expansion. This would be a rather unlikely question on a math test.b) The limit example would not be defined as infitity unless you specified the direction of approach.I get an A.

My Interests

My long term vision has been blurred by too much cheap whiskey. I'm a self-proclaimed nerd, and three majors and many failed attempts at rebelling from my mother later, I'm back to the ol' drawing board. I love taking naps...Sorry boy I fell asleep on while riding trax home. Laying in the grass...
Porch swings. I love my down comforter year round, but would hardly call it an interest. Scraping ice off of my car windows in the morning is the bane of my existence. I love the properties of wax, and I hate burning the roof of my mouth. I love staring at fire.

Our bikes are cooler than yours,

and my friends are the best thirsty thursday fans a girl could find. Hockey games in the winter. Let's also throw summer storms and camping into the mix. Good lord, I'm a walking cliche. It's nice being able to find time to do things I like, sometimes even involving the aforementioned cheap whiskey. I still want to live in Cancun and marry Fernando, the pool boy.

I'd like to meet:

Nerds. 5 letter word for some of the coolest, most underrated people around. crossword enthusiasts, speakers of cross words need not apply. lovers of superlatives.

The oldest swinger in town. Someone as cute as my very svelte dog. Keith Moon and David Cook.

Music:

www.bonnaroo.com

I've been told that I have the voice of an angel, but for those with more discerning taste, I'm not too picky. Probably not me if I could choose (unless I'm singing the family drinking song). However, vocal range is not my only criteria, and most of my favorites have questionable voices... Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Bright Eyes, the Velvet Underground, Including Nico, Tom Waits, Half Japanese(Hello Jad Fair) and many, many more... The ROLLING STONES, The Clash, THE BOSS, The Pogues, David Bowie, The Who, The motha fucking BEATLES, The Faint, Mazzy Star, Tiger Army, Neva Dinova, Rilo Kiley...BELLE & SEBASTIAN!!! Hidden Cameras, Sufjan Stevens, The Beach Boys, The Arcade Fire, Metric and Emily Haines (OMG!!), Radiohead, Mates of State, Spoon, Tool, Transplants, The Distillers, Rancid, Bouncing Souls...I love me some country, but I'm pretty picky...Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Johnny Cash, Merle and Waylon, Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline, lots more (you know, the good stuff)...

Movies:

Les Enfants du Paradis may trump all the other favorites nowadays, Le Souffle au Couer, Au Revoir, le Enfants, Lacombe Lucien, Metropolis. I love westerns. It is definitely my favorite genre. Every time I watch a Sergio Leone film (Once Upon a Time In the West is my favorite) I get thirsty because I can practically feel the dust in my throat. If forced to answer, I guess my all time favorites are Cool Hand Luke(sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand), the first 2 Godfather movies (I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart), and A Clockwork Orange (It's funny how the colors of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen). Me, You and Everyone We Know-- ))((--back and forth. with the same poop. forever. So funny.Muriel's Wedding is about my favorite movie ever. I'm a sucker for crime and mob movies, Chinatown, L.A. Confidential, Casino, The Cooler, the Usual Suspects...If you haven't seen Oldboy check it out. It is awesome (not for the faint of heart or faint of stomach) and I have a feeling that the American remake will be nowhere near as good. Asian cinema has been interesting me a lot lately. I love the old Kurosawa films and a lot of the new Korean films are excellent. Kung Fu Hustle, way to go Stephen Chow! I really enjoy Luc Besson movies, too (especially the ones with Gary Oldman). The Coen Brothers movies, all of 'em are great, but Hudsucker Proxy and Lebowski are my faves. There is something about both Hula Hoops and White Russians that keep me captivated. Oh, and War of the Buttons. Fuck you, tosspots, I don't care if it is a kids movie. I love it.

Television:

Flight of the Conchords, Six Feet Under The Daily Show (Jon Stewart is dreamy) and The Colbert Report. Batman the Animated Series.... Scarecrow, Harvey Dent and Harley Quinn, but Bruce Wayne needs a makeover. Come on, he's a billionaire. He can afford more than one suit and one cheesy yellow shirt and slacks. I hate the word slacks.

Books:

Yes please. I can't even begin to compile a list. Okay, maybe a little one. Suffice it to say I read and like a lot of books.
Lots of American playwrights and Russian and Eastern European authors. Hesse, Dostoevsky, and Eugene O'Neill are my favorites. Beat poets and Camus. Love absurdist and existential writers. Vonnegut, Tom Stoppard's 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" is brilliant.
Rosencrantz: Do you think death could possibly be a boat?
Guildenstern: No, no, no...Death is...not. Death isn't. You take my meaning. Death is the ultimate negative. Not-being. You can't not-be on a boat.
Rosencrantz: I've frequently not been on boats.
Guildenstern: No, no, no - what you've been is not on boats.

Also, Burgess, Bukowski, Kesey, Palahniuk, and Faulkner. And Gone With the Wind. Doesn't fit in any of those categories but I still love it. Enough that I even read Scarlett, and yes, my cheeks are a little flushed even admitting it.
Speaking of blushing, Tom Robbins. That man has more names for female genitalia than you can shake a stick at. Plus he has great characters and wonderfully irreverent plot lines.
I'm also delving into a new genre (for me anyway): The Graphic Novel...I must say so far, so good. Preacher is so fucking good. I can't even believe it.
Despite or perhaps because of being fairly well read, I'm always looking for something new to arouse my interests. Reading is fundamental. There. How's that instead of a lengthy diatribe addressing the importance of literacy?

Heroes:

My heroes have always been cowboys. More a reference to tax evading hippy country/folk icons than anything else. It has been the first thing that pops into mind when anyone asks since I have been old enough for anyone to ask the question.

They aren't heroes, but I enjoy my inappropriate crushes on cartoon characters (Haku and Ashitaka and Scarecrow...creepy) and men older than my mother (Gary Oldman) and in the case of Gene Wilder older than both my parents.

So it goes?

Billy Pilgrim said it best, and sad as it is, 'so it goes' sorta seems like a proper tribute to one of my favorite authors. R.I.P. Mr. Kurt Vonnegut.

Who Needs A Jukebox Hero?

Yeah, I said it.  Who needs it when you can play Guitar Hero at the bar?  What a fabulous idea.  My coordination, for some reason, was a little bit off last night though.  Weird.
