Old Soldier - "The Consummate Songwriter

About Me

Paul Fleming, aka Old Soldier, is Central Texas-based songwriter, originally from Meridian, Mississippi. He has also lived in Greenville, MS where he began his musical career under the tutelage of Roy P. Huddleston at Coleman Jr./Sr. High School. He also lived in Morganfield, Waverly and Bowling Green, Kentucky before pursuing a military career that involved assignments throughout the world. He currently resides in Killeen, Texas the home of Fort Hood, the largest military installation in the free world. Killeen and Fort Hood, Texas has provided Old Soldier with a unique perspective and an appreciation for life, liberty and the basic freedoms which are often taken for granted. Old Soldier is therefore dedicated to the creation and propagation of positive music with literary value. He is primarily a songwriter, but his ultimate goal is to develop and promote Old Soldier Records, an independent label which will provide opportunities for songwriters, singers, musicians and entertainers with similar interest, values and goals. While serving in the military (Air Force and Army), Old Soldier performed with R&B mogul Lamont Boles and Sinbad during the Air Force’s Strategic Air Command Talent Showcases at McConnell, AFB in Witchita, Kansas. He was also privileged to perform with talented R&B producer Jimmy Simpson at Western Kentucky University in an R&B band. A trumpeter in his youth, Old Soldier discovered in later years that he possesed a rare songwriting gift and talents which he was unaware of during his formative years. He possessed the ability to write poetry, songs, prose, stories and articulate his thoughts through entertaining though enlightening literary verse. Subsequently, he has become the consummate songwriter and lyricist, compiling an amazing untapped catalog of songs which span numerous genres. With these, he intends to entertain and enlighten the general public while addressing social problems and facilitating cross-cultural communications. While Old Soldier is primarily an R&B songwiter, he also writes songs for several other genres.MOVE ALL HTML CODES (IMAGES/WIDGETS/SLIDESHOWS/VIDEOS) BELOW THIS CODE

Band Members: "I Wanna Know", a tribute to R&B and Rock & Roll legends, was written, performed and produced by Paul Fleming aka Old Soldier using a Roland XP-80 Workstation, trumpet and BOSS BR-1180 Digital Recorder. "Grandpapa" consist of lyrics written and performed by Old Soldier and midi samples from "My Way" a song made popular by Usher. "Red, White & Blue Americans" was written and produced by Old Soldier, who also played keyboards and sang vocals. Justin Fielder is featured on acoustic guitar. "Perfect" was written, performed and produced solely by Old Soldier. All songs are merely demos which have been created in a basic home studio for the purpose of demonstrating the literary value of the material and songwriting skills of Old Soldier.
Influences: Primarily an ethnomusicologist that can appreciate good music within any genre. Influences are the Temptations, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Jackie Wilson, Otis Redding, Joe Sample, Quincy Jones, Donald Byrd, Louis Armstrong, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Lionel Richie, Eric Clapton, Earth Wind & Fire, New Birth, Ohio Players, Chicago, Beatles, Gap Band, BarKays, Cameo, Ohio Players, Kool & the Gang, Isleys, Johnny Cash, Average White Band, Heatwave, GQ, Tower of Power, Donald Byrd, Crusaders, Guy, Tupac, Snoop, Usher, Michael Jackson, Babyface, War, B.B. King, Johnny Taylor, U2, Tyrone Davis, Issac Hayes, Elton John, Bernie Taupin, Prince, Barry White and Willie Nelson.
Sounds Like: "I Wanna Know" is a tribute to R&B and Rock & Roll legends. It pays homage and celebrates the legacies of the Beatles, Paul McCartney, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Jackie Wilson and the wicked Wilson Pickett. It has a unique style and flavor all of its own. "Grandpapa" consist of midi samples from Usher’s "My Way", which compliments powerful lyrics which promote hard work and education. "Red, White & Blue Americans" was written with the intent to stimulate patriotism and unity in a manner similar to Lee Greenwood’s "Proud To Be An American". Listen carefully to the lyrics. You’ll find its a GREAT SONG! "Perfect" is an R&B ballad written with Luther Vandross in mind. Unfortunately Luther moved .. I could pitch it to him. While I sang it for demonstration purposes, it clearly deserves a much more accomplished balladeer. While these songs are clearly very different and should perhaps be sang by different people, they each provide messages with literary value which stimulate thought with simple entertaining melodies for listeners to enjoy.
