..Scott Thompson, as so many of his contemporaries received his first guitar for Christmas back in 1978 when he was 13. Within a year he had learned basic chords and had started to experiment with his own style in creating his music and writing songs. By the time he was 15 Scott was using a 4 track machine and in 1987 wrote, performed and produced a 4 track studio EP called Dreamtime, achieving positive local acclaim and exposure on local radio. No mean feat back in the post punk disco creativity void known now as The Eighties.Attending the Light Music Course gave an insight to professional production and performance and a push into Image Fix a high-tech guitar vox band drawing heavily on Scotts experimental and programming desires. Creative self-sufficiency and thirst for recording and performance gave two years of solid gigging and hardening recorded material. As a face on the local scene Scott became the manic jam night Shamen. Liaisions with experienced musicians and stroking of discerning hard-core audience gurus led through a passage of gained respect, leading to the formation of Project X, a hard working and persistently admired covers band that orbited the fuel and beer pub gig circles from 1992.1995 it happened. While working with Project X Scott was asked to write an album for Reverse Records. An album and band of the same name, being X-Tension, were borne of this coupling that gigged their way to a Manchester venue support slot with Bush. Again media acclaim ratified the hard work and in 1997 Alan Arnold, producer extraordinaire with Brian Eno, Phil Collins and Talk Talk on his CV persuaded Scott to make Subliminal Mind Attack.Digitally recorded in a 24-track studio and produced to the hightandard the SMA experience forms the basis for much of Scotts current work right through the latest release. Now pushing the limits on a BR8 compact digital studio, gigging as an acoustic solo pilot and as part of BEAM, a lively covers combo of the old school style, Scotts music is set to take him out to the world beyond.combo of the old school style, Scotts music is set to take him out to the world beyond.I asked Scott why he turned down a job touring Europe (with some very well known names in the music industry) earning what would have been a lot of money?
