Reggae Sounds

North America's longest running Reggae Show

About Me

"Reggae Sounds" came about due to a listener survey in 1978, where there was a demand for Reggae music on the radio. With limited knowledge of Reggae music, and a limited record collection, Denise Durb hosted "Reggae Sounds" on Saturday March 17th from Noon to 2pm. While the listener ship increased, so did the record collection, mostly from listeners! WITR was actively involved in bringing Reggae bands to Rochester. In the early 1980s "Reggae Sounds" was expanded to 4 hours from Noon to 4pm Saturdays. In 1985 the shows hours were changed to 5-9pm Saturdays, the listener ship doubled with the 'prime time' change. In 1993 "Mr. Bill" took over hosting "Reggae Sounds" in its current time slot from 4 to 10pm Saturdays. The listener ship continues to increase and WITR and MR. Bill are very active in brining Reggae music to Rochester. Now 25+ years strong, "Reggae Sounds" is the longest continuous running Reggae radio program in North America. "Reggae Sounds" incorporates Reggae, Calypso, Soca, Dance Hall and Root Rock in to a 6 hour block of pure listening pleasure. Listen live every Saturday 4pm till 10pm
