MONSTERS OF DANCEHALL - THE BEST OF RED RAT Release date 19th may 2008
The fourth release in the Monsters of Dancehall series that highlights the very best of Greensleeves Dancehall masters is from Red Rat - a star like no other; a force of nature, a stand-alone talent, hilarious, exuberant and thrilling!
Red Rat released two massive selling albums on Greensleeves "Oh No It's Red Rat" (1997) and "I'm A Big Kid Now" (2000) to critical acclaim. He amassed an incredible stream of hit singles including 'Shelly Ann', 'Bruck Mi Ducks' and Tight Up Skirt that have animated an unsuspecting and otherwise drab world. He has the unusual knack of appealing to a wider audience and to hardcore Ragga fans without needing to pander to either. At once esoteric and universal: he is at home sparring with Buju Banton on 'Love Dem Bad' and equally at ease twisting 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' to his own ends on 'nuh Live Nuh Weh'. His head to head with Goofy 'Big Man Little Yute' made the dancehall a place to laugh when the guns and badman attitude ruled the place...
This compilation covers Red Rats entire recording career from tracks taken from his albums to hit singles 'Bruks Mi Ducks' featured on Greensleeves legendary Ragga Ragga Eagga and Sampler series. Also outstanding cuts from rhythms albums including 'Curfew' from the Ernie Wilks 'Ice Cube' and 'Dun Dem' from Maximum Sounds 'Intercom' lick-over through to ''Left Foot In' produced by Curtis Lynch Jnr and the current air play hit 'Wine Pon Me' produced by Miami's blackout Movements bringing the album bang up to date with a typewriter style rhythm, haunting voccodered vocals and atmospheric horns and church bell fx...
Chuck it on, turn it up and enjoy the comedy crown prince of Dancehall..."On No" the big kid is back...
12" RULERS - JAH THOMAS released date 19th May 2008
The 'Twelve Inch Rulers' series concentrates on those 12" singles that Greensleeves have released over the years and that recorc collectors remember so fondly - and of which, many have never appeared on CD. The previous two 'Twelve Inch Rulers' releases featured Henry "Junjo" Lawes and Gussie Clarke. This release concentrates on the works of legendary producer and DJ Jah Thomas.
Jah Thomas was an important figure on the Jamaican music scene during both the roots era of the '70's and the subsequent dancehall decade of the '80's. Besides releasing several DJ sides of his own in the latter half of the 70's, Thomas also came into his own as one of the island's top producers for both singers and DJs/ A bulk of these tunes were released in the UK on Greensleeves with the majority surfacing on 12".
Featuring full-length 12" mixes from artists like Triston Palma, Little John, Billy Boyo, Anthony Johnson and Michale Palmer amongst others.
Recorded at Channel One, King Tubby's, backed by the Roots Radics, Sly & Robbie and engineered and mixed by Scientist, Soldgie and Prince Jammy.
Most of the tracks have never appeared on CD before until now!
The CD contains extensive sleeve notes by historian and an exclusive interview with Jah Thomas. The Booklet also contains rare photos and previously unseen images of the featured artists.

FROM DUBPLATE TO DOWNLOAD – The Best of Greensleeves Records
From Dubplate To Download is a celebration of Greensleeves Records phenomenal success and influence in reggae music. It’s the ultimate collection of the best reggae / dancehall songs to have graced the label.Greensleeves started out as a small humble record shop in West London. Some 30 years later it is regarded as one of the most important independent reggae labels in the world. The key to the label’s success lies in its continued quest to remain cutting edge in the selection of music released on the label. This was evident right from the beginning with the release of Dr Alimantado’s iconic “Born For A Purpose” in 1977 – which some three decades after its release remains a highly requested title. Fast forward 30 years later and the label is still relevant to a new, young generation who like their parents before them listening to Barrington Levy, Eek A Mouse and the like are now tuning into the dancehall deejays of the new millennium i.e. Vybz Kartel, Busy Signal and Macka Diamond. From Dubplate To Download is a 2 x CD compilation – one track per year has been selected hence 30 tracks marking every year of the label’s history (1997-2007). From Reggae Regular’s sublime “Where Is Jah” to Tony Matterhorn’s hype driven “Dutty Wine” Included in the selection are 5 songs that crossed into the mainstream UK Top 20 charts and became instant hits: Tippa Irie – Hello Darling, Shaggy – Oh Carolina, Mr Vegas – Heads High, Beenie Man – Who Am I and Wayne Wonder’s – No Letting Go. The CD also includes a link to an additional free download of “Hoola Hoop” by Macka Diamond.Dubplate to Download is packaged in a multi fold digi pack which contains a 30 page booklet with the history of the label, exclusive images and interviews with the founders alongside quotes and anecdotes from artists associated with the label plus a link to a competition for a holiday for two in Jamaica.Featured artists include Dr Alimantado, Wailing Souls, Beenie Man, Shabba Ranks, Garnett Silk, Bounty Killer, Yellowman, Sizzla, Ward 21 and a whole heap more.
