St. Amand

Bishop of Maastricht

About Me

I was a monk at the age of 20. My family objected and tried to kidnap me from the monastery for "de-programming", but failed. After that I lived as a Hermit for 15 years eating nothing but bread and water. Eventually I became the Bishop of Maastricht and received a commission to wander and preach. I evangelized France, Flanders and many other places, preaching and setting up monasteries in so many beer and wine making regions that I am often noted as the Patron Saint of Wine-makers and Barkeepers. My name Amand, or Amandus, means "Lovable".
