Step One: cut a hole in the box...

About Me

I'm a transfer to LA from Atlanta originally, with a detour in Bethlehem, PA. I have wanted to be in entertainment (acting, producing) my whole life, and now I'm finally pursuing my dream full time. I recently completed my MBA at USC as a way into the industry and I also worked at the USC Cinema School.

Always happy for advice and looking to meet interesting people in this diverse town. Family and friends are extremely important to me. And bring on the humor (off beat = good).

My Interests

My Vance. Acting, movies, reading, writing, travel, hiking, spinning (and hopefully soon real cycling), walking (no more running - my knees are about shot). Good food and wine. Art and painting. The beach, the mountains, lakes. Spending time with V'lance. Laughing. Adventures. Walking and window shopping. Spinning class. Observing people. Low brow humor. High brow humor. Wine tasting. Driving with the top/windows down. Cooking. Eating out. Dreaming. Talking about film/tv ideas. Doing something about those ideas. Stand up comedy. Spontaneity. Love and friendship.

I'd like to meet:

Interesting people; artists; thinkers; world travelers... and funny folks

Music:

Just about everything, except too twangy country and most metal.

Movies:

Recently viewed: Hot Fuzz and Sexy Beast (both great). My perennial favorites are Cinema Paradiso, The Princess Bride,... and South Park:Bigger, Longer, & Uncut. A list of some others: Wizard of Oz, Most of Hitchcock's films, An Affair to Remember, To Kill a Mockingbird, Joe Dirt, Amelie, The Dream Team, A Shot in the Dark, The Revenge of the Pink Panther, all of Christopher Guest's films, Watcher in the Woods, Sabrina (the Bogart-Hepburn version), Braveheart, The Usual Suspects, The Sound of Music, The Full Monty, Memento, Glengarry Glen Ross, Adaptation, Billy Elliot, The Lord of the Rings - all of 'em, Star Wars, Return of the Jedi, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (surprisingly funny), Royal Tenenbaums, Garden State, Napoleon Dynamite, Office Space, Hero, Kung Fu Hustle, Roshoman, Yojimbo, The Bad Seed, Citizen Kane, Sunset Blvd, Shakespeare in Love, Howard's End... and many more. Can't list 'em all.

Television:

The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Extras, South Park, My Name is Earl, Grey's Anatomy (which Vance despises), Entourage, Lost, 30 Rock!!!!.

Books:

Currently reading Kate - bio of Katharine Hepburn. Just finished Three Junes, The Memory Keeper's Daughter, and The Kite Runner - all great reads and very moving. Others I've read recently or worth noting include The Last Mogul, The Secret Life of Bees, West With the Night, Peppermints in the Parlor (a fifth grade favorite), Peace Like a River (I can't talk about this book without crying), The Hours, What Should I Do With My Life?, Working With Emotional Intelligence, all David Sedaris' books, Empire Falls, So Big, The Devil in the White City, The Art of Mending, The Secret History. Looking at lots of cookbooks, too.

Heroes:

I admire and respect many people... those who show kindness and respect for humanity.... those who are free to just be themselves, in any situation.

Where have all the agents gone?

When I arrived in LA almost three years ago, I thought to myself, "I will probably find an agent toward the end of business school, when I'm able to committ 100% to my acting career."  I was, um,...

And the blog begins.

I have to admit that regular blogging has always intimidated me a bit. Yet I love reading about other people's lives and their opinions and the mundane that they face each day.  Sooooooooo... Gon...
