The New Family Riot Disc, Dystopian Ditties, is now available!!Formed in the late Autumn months of 2004 by ex-members of Mosquito Bitten Bastards and Happy Rainbow Death, The Family Riot slowly evolved from brainstorming/jam sessions in Euclid Ohio. Within months a few songs were written, a bass player was found and the beginning pieces of Cleveland's premiere cartoon-core band were set in place.
In a town where some bands take themselves so seriously that its actually pretty hilarious, The Family Riot aims to do the exact opposite and deliver it on an over-the-top, heaping plate of surrealism. No egos, just music.
Describing the sound of The Family Riot is a bit of a harder task. From Garbage Cans, Glockenspiels, Kegs, to Clown Nose Squeakers... The Family Riot will use anything and everything to make as much noise as 4 human beings can possibly make. Songs that are structured fall apart and then come together again in a musical anarchy of sorts. Although The Family Riot's core sound is unmistakably heavy, they are not afraid to switch to Classical, Jazz, Techno, and Carnival (amongst others). The true 'no boundaries' band, The Family Riot will not accept the words 'We can't do that.'
In their short time playing out, The Family Riot has played with local acts such as Ringworm, Dead Even, A Few Askew, Phil Hatchet, Dohm and King amongst others. They also enjoyed opening slots for such national acts as Skeleton Key, Dog Fashion Disco, Tub Ring and shock rock kings, GWAR!
In Spring 2008, The Family Riot released their 8 song debut disc, Dystopian Ditties, to the unsuspecting public. The foundation has been laid down for Cleveland's premiere cartoon-core act and while there is no sure way to predict what may follow in the future, one can imagine that it will be a twisted, maniacal sonic journey that is guaranteed to, at the very least, be pretty friggin cool!
