About Me

Do you remember the feeling you got when you first heard one of the greats of hip-hop? The first time you heard 2pac, Nas, Biggie, Jay-z, Rakim, Outkast etc. As soon as you hear one of these artists you can tell that there is something special about them. Whether you are drawn into the content they rap about, the flow and way they deliver their words, the beats they rhyme over, or just the way they sound natural as if they are where they belong to be behind the microphone. This is the feeling you get when you hear Jezreal The Truth. Don’t get it wrong, this young man is by no means putting himself in the same category of these legends. Jezreal is very humble and realizes that he has more than enough work on the road ahead of him. At the same time he does not sell himself short. He realizes that he has the potential to be mentioned with these names by the time the curtain closes on his career. Jezreal the Truth, born Spenser Baca on June 6, 1987, was raised in Silver City N.M. By the age of 6 Jezreals older brother Randon had him listening to hip-hop. Jezreal first got into rap music listening to artists such as Mc Eight, Spice 1, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, and Ice Cube. “I used to only listen to west coast rap, but when Illmatic came out my brother got me into Biggie, AZ, Wu Tang and artists like that” states Jezreal. At age 11 Jezreal starting penning his first verses. Not knowing how to structure a song and without any instrumentals he would practically write during any spare time that he had. His Dad was impressed because within the first few months Jezreal had compiled a stack of notebooks with every page filled up. By 12 him and his brother recorded their first demo. When asked about his first demo Jezreal says “Even though I sounded real wack on it, I’m glad I did it. Any experience recording wont do anything but help you. I think all that recording when I was younger is one of the main reasons I can work so fast in the studio today”. In the next four years that followed Jezreal and his brother Randon would releases a 5-10 track demos every year. By the age of 15 Jezreal had a difficult time convincing anyone that he wrote his own material. With song concepts, witty punch lines, and a smooth delivery there was no argument that he was very advanced for his age. The only thing he felt was holding him and his brother back was original instrumentals, all of their demos had been recorded over other rappers beats. At age 16 Jezreal got into production. With his Dads support he got a loan for an Mpc to start making beats for him and his brother. Jezreal recalls “My high school years were a constant grind. I would have school from 8 to 3, work from 4 to 10, than stay up till 2 or 3 in the morning making beats. I had no idea how to use a mpc so for the first five or six months I was just learning. Since I didn’t have time to write I would do something in school purposely to get sent to detention. In detention I’d have a text book open to act like I was doing homework, but I was writing lyrics the whole time”. This was also around the time that he first took on the name “Jezreal The Truth”. The name Jezreal is from the bible which in translation means “God sows”. “The Truth” was added simply because every time Jezreal performed in front of an audience he would always hear people say “he’s the truth”. By age 17 Jezreal and his brother AR16 formed the group between themselves called Ilwitts. Ilwitts is a acronym for In Love Wit The Struggle. They recorded a 19 track self titled album in Dallas, Texas at the Liquid Lab. The album was produced by Jezreal with the exception of two songs, and was recorded in three short days. The album was professionally packaged and has sold close to 2000 copy’s, this was all before Jezreal graduated high school. Since the Ilwitts album Jezreal has done nothing but continue progressing in his career. He has established himself as an artist with an up and coming rap crew out of Dallas Texas called Hypnotic Tunez. He has already had a feature on Info Red’s “Weapons of Mass Construction” album on the stand out song “Brain Storm”. He will also be producing and featuring on up and coming Hypnotic Tunez artists albums. Jezreal also produced AR16’s EP “My Demo is Better Than Your Album” which is currently catching a buzz from "The Meth Song". As for himself Jezreal has just finished 2 mixtapes for his “Get Real” mixtape series and the album “Jezdilla” a tribute to the late great J Dilla. The J Dilla tribute is available free to download at ilwitts.com, and "Get Real" vol 1 and 2 will be out summer of 08.
