About Me

As a child I used to enjoy making as many weird noises with my mouth as I could. My hero was that guy in Police Academy who could imitate machine guns, sirens, animals, robots, etc. Now that I'm all grown up I'm doing the same thing -but assisted by various instruments and objects and I'm tending to listen more to the weird sounds other people and things make, as well as making my own. This is my more experiental stuff.
I have another profile- Check out http://www.myspace.com/willfearless
to hear my ambient/electronic music and my visual art. I play acoustic stuff too, I sing, play guitar and didgeridoo (not at the same time though!) -but haven't recorded any of that yet. Maybe I'll have 3 or 4 profiles on here eventually!
New projects are developing, collaborations with video, installation artists and musicians at the Synergy Project, the Vaults of the Foundry near Old Street, and Wupadupa- a collective of talented and wonderful musicians. I'll have to update tand say more about this later, at the moment there's so much happening I haven't time to write about it all! In the meanwhile you can check out these links: http://www.myspace.com/thesynergyproject

Please be patient with friend requests, I'm quite a busy bee and can't always reply, but if I can I'll have a look at your profile and comment :o)

I circuit bend toys, (take them apart and solder switches, resistors, patch bays and stuff onto them) -mostly sampling keyboards: To date I have modified a Casio SK-1, two Casio SK-5's, a Yamaha VSS-200, another Casio I can't remember the name of, a modified record turntable and a modified dictaphone with adjustable speed and 2 circuit bent key-tars. I've done some others, but they've been either given away or have broken.
I also use contact mics, electromagnetic mics -which pickup all kinds of droning, crackling interference and bleeps, found sounds on cassette tape, vinyl, minidisc, CD and digital format, and I use a Boss multi-effects pedal and looping pedal, sometimes making sounds with my mouth or the bare jack lead, occasionally plugging in an actual guitar! Occasionally I use a Zoom Sampletrakk sampler and sometimes I write stuff exclusively on the computer, but not not very often these days. I prefer a hands-on way of making music.
Influences: R. Murray Schafer (pioneer of acoustic ecology), Hildegard Westerkamp, John Cage, Pauline Oliveros and the Deep Listening Group, anyone interested in our soundscape and consciously or unconsciously contributing to it in beautiful ways.
