Somnambulist Red

About Me

Somnambulist Red plays CINEMATIC AURAL SURREALISM exclusively! Although the band have various influences (largely post punk, prog, ambient, jazz and metal), the continous thread through years of recording/performing has been cinematically-rendered soundscaping. Somnambulist Red has a style/sound unique to itself, yet each recording/release has its own sonic demands...This determines everything Somnambulist Red does. Atmosphere is paramount. Somnambulist Red is an ethereal beast of an entity unto itself. It speaks mainly to Townsend when it speaks...Townsend then does his best to translate the beast's message--whether he records everything himself (as the first few releases are) OR if he has the luxury of guest musicians (which he often prefers). If any given material fails to convey the message, Townsend takes credit for this failure (and apologizes). However, if the material has the desired effect, then the Red have spoken clearly...This is all...........Many thanks to Laine Gates, Darran Dearing, Dylan Grigar, Matt Young, John Cheesebrew, Jay Carroll, James Rude and the esteemable Geoff Montgomery and everyone who has contributed in some way. Special thanks goes to Beast In the Field and Yellow6, Harrison House, John/The Brass Rail and others we've played/collaborated with...
