P-p-p-p-p-pick up a Penny

About Me

I am a fiercely strong and occasionally irritatingly independent girl - as stubborn as an ox and unwilling to rely on anyone else for things I think I should be able to do myself.
I am a useless layabout for the most part, a musician in my hopes and dreams and all number of other things in between
I collect nicknames of any variant on Pen, but you, my friends can call me by my other moniker, 'The Pie Queen'. Obviously, I am a domestic goddess in the making!

I am loyal to the end, hopelessly protective of my friends and if I love you, I will do anything I can to make you happy. Don't use this as an excuse to take advantage of me and don't mess with me, my friends or loved ones, because if I argue with you, I will try to run rings around you until you can't speak any more. (muahaha) Philosophy tutes can do that to a girl...
Zoot is the guardian of Brixton Towers. He looks cute, but don't be fooled and any attacker, be warned - he will set his sexy claws on you.
Because I believe in basic principles of respect even if you don't get on with someone, helping others if and when you can, honesty, loyalty, generosity, I expect a certain amount of respect and politeness in return.
Pet hates include stupidity, particularly girls who pretend to be dappy or stupid because they think it makes them attractive to men, the hell that is txt-tlk (Long Live the Almighty Semi-colon), getting rained on just as I set out to leave to walk somewhere when it was sunny before, the heels wearing down on my shoes too quickly, my chronic insomnia, anchovies, cotton wool, liars, cheats, people who try to pass the buck, thin curtains, not having enough money to buy all the books and CDs I want, mind games, rudeness, shallowness and clocking in in the morning at work.
I will work as hard as I can for anything I truly want, but find it hard to motivate myself to work on things I am not interested in.
I need to be able to sing lots; if I couldn't, I might forget to breathe.
The way to make me happy is simple. The things I love include: Cuddles, Fruli beer, caramel rocky biscuits, Music, dancing over-exuberantly with friends, comedy on t'box, Northern accents. More cuddles. Above and beyond, bed is absolutely my favourite place in the whole world. Try to move/part me from it and live to regret it.

My Interests

I would like to lie and say that I have a simplistic personality but that would be too obvious. I'll at least condense my interests! Music is my life, I sing too much, I am probably the crazy girl you see walking down the street singing along to her iPod at the top of her voice and trying to avoid the stares. I bounce. I have too much energy. Hence I walk... A lot... fast. Walking is good - it keeps me sane. Food is good, too. Please let me cook for you - it's probably the only thing I can achieve. And in the form of a tasty list (!): dancing, singing, guitar, piano, gigs, comedy, Quail, Pubs, Being Outside, meeting new like-mindedly odd people, Films, Literature (reading it and being read it. Audiobooks are wonderful), Cake, Tea. etc.

I'd like to meet:

Not really into meeting famous people or 'celebrities' for the sake of doing so; generally I find that meeting idols, or anyone you've had on a pedestal is a let down. That said, I wouldn't mind hooking up with Ovid some time. Also, I'd quite like to have Bill Bailey round for afternoon tea and maybe some scones. And I dearly want to go out on the piss with Anthony Bourdain and make pies with the hairy bikers.Seriously though, am always happy to 'meet' anyone who's easy going, has a decent sense of humour, similar interests and a sound head on their shoulders. Particularly if they can spell. :)

Music:

What? A big list? I've got fairly eclectic taste... In no particular order...CCR(they will improve your life), Beady Belle are the best thing that ever happened to jazz-dance fusion, Aphex Twin, Mogwai, Jamie Cullum, JH4, The Beatles, Sigur Ros, Spiritualized, The Stones, Led Zep, Elbow, Muse, Gwyn Herbert, Radiohead, Ben Castle, Suede, Razorlight, Vaughan Williams, Alpha, King Crimson, The Band, Al Green, Thelonious Monk, Otis Redding, James Brown, Ash, Miles Davis ( In a Silent Way will never be beaten), Janis Joplin, Garbage, Geoff Gascoyne, Charles Mingus, Bach, Elgar, Finzi, Faure, The Delays, Acid Mothers Temple, Soweto Kinch, The Bees, the Mars Volta, Cream, Allman Brothers' Band, Thievery Corporation, The New Mastersounds, James Brown, The Mystery Jets, The Young Knives, British Sea Power, At the Drive-In, Jane's Addiction, The Stills, Blur (oh the memories), Terri Walker, Super Furry Animals, Caravan, Nitin Sawhney, King Crimson, Simon and Garfunkel, The Cure, Leonard Cohen, Mr Scruff, my Gilles Peterson compilations lift me when I'm blue, Abram Wilson, Madeleine Peyroux, Dimitri from Paris, The Kooks, Interpol, We are Scientists, Carole King, Sheila Nicholls, Rachmaninov, David Bowie, Tom Waits, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Floris, Frank Zappa, Jamiroquai, Maximo Park, Victory at Sea, The Spinto Band, Velvet Revolver, The Macabees, Pull Tiger Tail, Le Tigra, Confidential Collective, Jill Scott, Mos Def, Raphael Saadiq, Lemonjelly, Beta Band, Lo-Fidelity Allstars, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, The Boy Least Likely To, Polly Paulusma, Billie Holiday, BRMC, Godspeed you black Emperor, Will Rutter, Devo, The Fratellis... God - I could go on an on, but I'll stop. :)

Movies:

I like to escape within films - things that will utterly take my mind off the tedium of normal life. Again, there are too many favourites to list, but: LotR trilogy goes without saying; Amelie warms the cockles o' my heart (and I love Delicatessen too); I love Dancer in the Dark even though it's bleak; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is the best 'love' film I've ever seen; Amadeus is genius; I have a soft spot for Lost In Translation, which is made with a very obvious and delicate 'female touch'; Spinal Tap. Godliness; Some Like it Hot never dates; 28 Days Later is good becaus ethe zombies reeeeally come for you; Bill and Ted. Come on. You know it's right.

Television:

Find myself going back more and more to older television. Not much on telly piques my interest at the mo'- Peep Show, Shameless... love them.... I am also faintly addicted to neighbours - tis the student way. The things I go back to time and time again are Monty Python, Blackadder (best is the second series, surely?), Alan Partridge, Brass Eye, the Day Today, Red Dwarf, Father Ted, Spaced, The Mighty Boooooosh, Black Books, The Mitchell and Webb Situation/That Mitchell and Webb Look ('Oh no! Now he's poorly from too much electric!'). I have a lot of time for the programmes I used to watch when I was a kid too - mmmm, Bagpuss, Button Moon, Thundercats! I am Cheetarah... hear me roar.

Books:

Gotta be some reason I chose my course, so I'll extol the virtues of Homer, Virgil, Ovid and Euripides... I read kids' books for comfort, so love A.A.Milne, and am sadly, a Harry Potter geek, Nabokov, Burgess, Palahniuk, Tolstoy, Jane Austen always get me excited. Please read Dave Gorman. I am a walking cliche. :D

Heroes:

I am Euripides' bitch.
