This Church's cornerstone was laid in 1839 and the building was completed in 1845. Therefore the church was used as one in a network of hding places dubbed," The Underground Railroad. Escaping slaves were hidden in a concealed area in the basement of this church until they escape to freedom in Canada via Niagara Falls NY or other designated points.
