"Melting Point, college rock gods straight from the warm teat of Berkeley.â€
--Vitamin Party
We are Melting Point, a four piece rock band from Berkeley, California. We formed in late 2005 and started playing shows in the Berkeley area about a year later. The band came into being when guitarist Ben Kramarz asked singer Jesse Brownstein if he would be interested in joining the band Ben had been intent on creating since coming to UC Berkeley in 2004. The duo quickly recruited prodigy bassist Thomas Megantz, and the three began writing songs. Shortly thereafter Ben received a phone call from drummer Andrew Prout, whom he had met the previous year, asking if Ben was still looking for a drummer. His call could not have come at a better time. After a brief audition with Prout, the lineup was complete.
We began to jam in Ben’s apartment in the fall of 2005 and wrote a handful of songs therein until we were forced out by noise complaints and moved into a friend’s garage. During this time we struggled to agree on a name. The songs we were writing were very diverse and therefore it was hard to pin a label on us. Finally, after a trip to New York, Ben remembered an experience he had had a year earlier in which a guy (who called himself “Danny Greeneâ€) on Market Street in San Francisco scammed him out of thirty dollars by telling Ben that if he pretended to be in his band, Melting Point, “Danny†could get Ben tickets to an amazing show. Being in a state of shock, Ben gave “Danny†the money and he made off with it. Fortunately, we gained a band name. After coming back from New York, Ben dubbed the band “Melting Point†and it stuck.
Currently we are practicing at Soundwave Studios in Oakland, expanding our repertoire and continually improving the songs we already have. Our influences are varied and range from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to the Beatles to AC/DC to Simon and Garfunkel. We have no desire to limit the possibilities of our sound and our only guidelines for writing songs are that we all have to like them and they have to be fun to perform. As Berkeley students and lovers of good music, we hold ourselves to high musical standards. We strive to make music that everyone can enjoy. Although they don’t fully represent our musical range, the songs we are currently pushing as singles are “Ishmael†and “Get On The Bus,†both of which are high powered rock songs.Myspace Backgrounds
