It all began back in the fall of 2005 in Evansville, IN, as a couple of friends decided that they would try and get a group together to play a song for their schools music festival called Tempfest. Not long after, friends Jake Trout (rhythm guitar & lead vocals), Nick Goss (drums), Steven Walsh (keyboard & piano), Ben Clutter (2nd rhythm guitar), Charles Tuggle (lead guitar), and Logan Meneely (bass guitar) began to play together, the only problem, they didnt have a drummer. Luckily Stevens brother, David, was a drummer, so he stepped in and played drums until Nick, the best guitarist at the time, stepped up and took it on himself to learn. Once Nick had become a fairly competent drummer, and the band acquired a much needed PA system, practice began for Tempfest. After about a month of practice the guys had two songs ready to perform, All Along the Watchtower and Crash Into Me. Tempfest finally came, and the band put on an unforgettable first performance, with students having to be restrained from rushing the stage. It was at this time that they realized that they were on to something, and with that the group moved their equipment across town to Nicks basement, where they went to work on their first original song, Birds. Pretty soon they had completed two other original songs to go along with Birds, Country Murder and Good Damn Day.
Finally outgrowing the basement, the group proceeded to move out to Nicks garage to accommodate all of their new equipment, some of which they borrowed from their high school. After a few months of practice out in the garage, the guys felt it was time to record a demo, but to do this they would need a name, and with that Odyssey was born. Their first album, Birds, included a mixture of both full band and acoustic songs, with five being originals and six covers, and was recorded at the Guitar Lab® in Evansville.
After the completion of the first album, the guys decided that it was time to begin work on an all original album. After working all summer in the garage, the group finally had enough songs completed, to head back into the studio and begin recording their debut original album, The Scuba Squad. The group put the finishing touches on at the end of August 2006, just before they had to head off to college.
Currently the guys are spread out across the country at different colleges, where they hope to spread their gift of music with all new people. As of right now, Odyssey does not have any events scheduled, but could possibly play some shows this winter and plan on playing together next summer.
