zSIFT.com“Music has always been an escape for me,†Jared Michael says. “I remember long days, as a child, listening to the radio feeling a sense of awe, admiration and respect for those who graced the airwaves of my tattered stereo. The works of such artists as the Beatles, Prince, and Elton John allowed me to study the chemistry of song writing, and form the direction of my own personal creativity. Eventually after years of teaching myself to play the piano, I learned how to form chord progressions into arrangements, and arrangements into songs. I slowly began to construct a collection of music that was not only commercially appealing, but also full of personal meaning and relevance. With a slow building fire and passion, I pushed forward with one goal in mind, to share my music with the world. As a 19 yr old college student, little did I know that my first encounter in musical collaboration would bring me face to face with one of my idols, and a member of a band that inspired me in my youth.â€
Michael went to Native Music studio one afternoon to begin production on what would be his first demo recording. As he stared at the platinum records and framed reviews from magazines such as Billboard and Rolling Stone, he realized, for the first time, that everything he had dreamed of from such a young age could actually be possible with hard work and determination. It was in that studio that Michael met his first collaboration partner, none other than Eddie Hedges, drummer of the multi-platinum group, Blessid Union of Souls.
From that fateful meeting, Michael was inspired to create music that was not only memorable but moved people. In the early summer of 2000, his song “Bye, Bye (Baby)†was featured on Los Angeles’ KIIS FM s “Kiss it or Diss It†radio program, receiving one of the highest “Kiss It†approvals. KIIS FM’s program director called Michael, saying the demo compilation was on repeat in the program director’s personal collection: a huge personal compliment from such a well-versed pop music critic. In the summer of 2001, “Bye, Bye (Baby)†received moderate airplay on MAGIC 93.1 in Boise, ID. “Bye, Bye (Baby)†later dominated Chingy’s hit single “One Call Away†in a listener influenced on-air challenge.
In 2002, Michael teamed up with Grammy Award-winning songwriter/producer Rodney Shelton on the track “Gimme’ (Some),†demonstrating Michael’s versatility as a songwriter and performer. Rodney Shelton described the R&B flavored tune as one of the best tracks he had ever heard written by an up-and-coming artist.
In late 2004, Michael returned to the studio—once again working with Hedges—to record the track “Walk Away.†To round out his demo, he was driven to write a pop-rock ballad to once again showcase his versatile songwriting ability. About the track, Hedges said, “In my 20 years in the music business, ‘Walk Away’ has been one of the only songs I did not get tired of listening to throughout the rigorous mixing process.â€
Looking towards the future, MichaeI says, “I anticipate creating an album of diverse pop music, an album that doesn't blend into uniformity, an album that engages people as well as meets the primal need for entertainment. I don’t envision myself as a one-hit wonder, but as an artist who’s career is built on a series of pop milestones. Looking ahead, I feel confident with the catalogue of music that is yet to come; this goal can become a reality, given the right opportunity. Music is a statement as well as an art form, as expressed by great musicians of our time; I humbly wait for the day I can leave my mark in the pages of music history.â€
