Hey Guys
Some of you might be aware, some may not be - that my car (a red celica) was broken into on Wednesday morning outside my house.
My stereo was stolen, but that's fine insurance covers that. What it doesn;t cover though is the 2 massive CD wallets that i foolishly left in the car. They are jammed of all the CDs that I use for my sets out and about the place and on Electric Therapy.
I don't give a shit about the stereo - but i really want my CDs back as they are what helps me earn my living. There are a lot of CDs in there full of rmxs that i can now no longer get and are not stored on my HD as they r direct from record labels etc. If anyone knows of anybody that did this, or they did it themselves. please contact Fresh FM or email me so we can organise for them to be returned. I will give a cash reward to anyone that returns these CDs to me - no questions asked!
thanks
Lachy
About my DJ career:
Lachlan Pender’s path into DJing was not an uncommon one. In fact, it is probably as close to a typical progression as you’ll find. A growing interest in dance music through his teens saw him succumb to the influence of the late 90’s rave phenomenon. Thus, the only logical step was to buy decks and join the legion of bedroom Djs.
While his passion and dedication clearly stood out, the first few years provided little more than an enjoyable hobby…and of course a seriously expensive vinyl addiction. In fact, he first came to the attention of Adelaide promoters for all the wrong reasons. Of all the genres, you could play, who in their right mind would choose to champion the Breaks cause in Adelaide? More established figures in the dance music community had tried and failed, and it was a commonly held view that you’d have more luck selling heaters on a 40 degree day.
To his credit, Lachlan stayed true to his passion for the style and vision for its future, quickly becoming one of Adelaide’s leading exponents of breaks in all its variations. Meanwhile, he confirmed his versatility with sets ranging from deep and jackin house to sleaze-laden, filth-coated electro. Before long he had developed a formidable resume, supporting some of the biggest names to play the City of Churches including Crazy Penis, Hyper, Infusion, Armand Van Helden, Jungle Brothers, Tayo, Adam Freeland, Krafty Kuts, James Holden, Steve Gerrard and Lee Coombs; and was awarded the title of ‘Up and Coming DJ of the Year’ at the South Australian Dance Music Awards in 2004. A year later an the accolades keep coming including an invitation to join the likes of the Chemical Brothers, Freestylers and Carl Cox at the 2005 Adelaide Big Day Out Boiler Room and a spot at Adelaide’s leg of Australia’s premier electronic music festival, Two Tribes.
However, as impressive as these achievements are, Lachlan’s importance to the Adelaide dance music scene far outweighs these individual honours. Currently completing a PhD in Strategic studies, it is evident that he has harnessed the skills learnt in academia, as his leaderships skills, vision and drive have seen, for the first time, break-beat edging closer to fulfilling the promise it has always hinted at.
Realising that for breaks to have any chance of establishing itself collaborative efforts between all the like-minded promoters was essential, in 2005 Lachlan was the driving force behind the formation of the Adelaide Breaks Collective (ABC). For the first time the focus was put on an all-out promotional blitz of local talent. The formula was simple. Pessimism was over-ridden by passion, politics took a back-seat to partying and ass-wiggling replaced attitude. What personal achievements can be more important to the role Pender has played in ensuring a genres future and long-term viability?
Any given weekend sees Lachlan juggle a number of residencies including Saturdays at the Gilbert Street Hotel and Elysium Lounge, and Sundays at the Gilbert Street Hotel’s popular night Stylus and at Adelaide’s clubbing institution Sugar. He is also aresident at Adelaide’s longest running progressive night, Fabric, where he injects a monthly dose of acid infused breakbeat. Past residencies include such clubs and bars as Heaven, the Kings Head and the Cumberland Arms.
Lachlan has also begun exploring the realm of production, his first forays seeing him collaborate with Matt from Universal Dust. The results showed enough promise to warrant an ongoing partnership.
And what of the future? Well just as inevitable as death & taxes is the certainty that Lachlan will continue to get those arses wiggling!
