Dj/Turntablist/Producer Johnny Realm, hit the dance music scene back in 1993 when he started his residency at club Labyrinth alongside the likes of Billy "Daniel" Bunter, Kenny Ken, Adrian Age and Nicky Blackmarket. This residency shortly led to further bookings including A.W.O.L, Desire, Raindance, Freedom to Dance and many more.
Playing on bills with the likes of Andy C, DJ Rap, DJ Hype and Goldie, Realm honed his skills and quickly established a reputation as a technically sound DJ with consistently rolling mixes, displaying his own unique cutting and scratching style.
Within a short space of time Realm began hosting his first radio show alongside DJ Longman on Londons Don FM. Soon after, a meeting with MC Diamond White, lead to Realm playing weekly sets on Londons Scandal FM under the management of Stevie A. Scandal FM grew to be one of Londons most listened to pirate radio stations, hosting a wealth of talent such as MC Skibadee, Scott (its a London thing) Garcia and DJ Ruxspin.
After reigning Londons airwaves for 4 years, Scandal finally came to an end and Realm headed for the sun acquiring residencies at many of Tenerifes top clubs. Returning to the UK, he made his way to the legendary Flex FM, the launch pad for such talent as DJ Deekline, N.A.S.T.Y Jack a.k.a NJ Fever, and Billy Whizz. Hooking up with DJ Rascal they launched the infamous Double R shows on Friday nights. The show included a selection of the hottest dubplates off the press and also featured infamous side kick "Dave Massive Head, a.k.a Dave The Driver". While at Flex, Realm and Rascal joined forces with stable mates Donna D, MC Diamond White, Felix D and Simon M to the form the Fare Evaders collective. The crews first release, the TI tune, soon became one of the most requested tracks on pirate radio and the club circuit.
At the beginning of 2000, feeling unable to express himself technically with drum & bass, and with a growing passion for scratching and beat juggling, Realm made a conscious decision to take his career down a new path and developed his skills via hip hop, breaks & beats. During this time Realm hooked up again with long time friend Jonny Rockstar (Japsluts,Dub Pistols) and worked on many studio projects over the following years.
In early 2005 Jonny Rockstar and Dan Shay (Hardwire) called Realm in to provide some cuts and scratches for a new project they were working on for Kingsize records under the guise of Digital Fox. The success of these studio sessions, and then the project as a whole meant that when Jonny Rockstar was told by Barry Ashworth that the Dub Pistols were looking for cover for the legendary DJ Stix he put Realms name forward. After impressing at his first show with the group in Russia Realm has now become regular cover for Stix at the live shows and performs 6 deck mixing and scratching with Barry Ashworth as part of the Dub Pistols Soundsystem. This has lead to him DJing at numerous festivals, clubs and other venues across the globe, as well as the "Distinctive Records" breaks show on Ministry Of Sound radio.
Over the last couple of years as well as working with the Dub Pistols Realm has also worked alongside Desperate Measures (U.K Hip Hop)as one of their collective of DJs, and is part of the infamous Grass Roots Fam, the brain child of Mc Sense.
Currently working on new projects with production partner Go Sneeky at Receive Transmit studios under the guise of Costa Nostra , touring the world with the Dub Pistols, and continuing to deliver high quality dj sets at every booking, the future looks to hold big things for this veteran DJ.....
