1 Soul 7 Lives isn’t your garden variety metal band. Just the official number of influences, is basically impossible to narrow down. With styles as diverse as the eye can see, 1 Soul 7 Lives have crafted a sound hard to imitate and impossible to duplicate. There is nothing fancy or classy about these guys, to the point in you face hardcore metal, call it progressive metalcore with a jazzy bass feel and brutal screaming with some clean vocals that are really amazing.
The most common comment out of people at the live shows is “These guys are fucking awesome!†and they are. With a progressive, diverse and sometimes insane rhythm section, technically precise in it’s construction by Jesus “Chuito†and Nelson “Warawaoâ€, the sound is a solid rhythmic pump with guitars doing the eloquent decoration that can only leave you breathless.
And with all of the precision and painstaking musical structure, 1 Soul’s rabid, rough and hardcore edge is put into this sophisticated mix by Miguelito, who provides screams straight from the lungs reminiscent of Agnostic Front at times and mix with more modern metalcore style singing. A mix that brings to the fold even the most power metal followers and pull the toughest of the hardcore 2steppers to equally enjoy their music.
1 Soul have performed virtually everywhere in the island but is noted as being a band that changed constantly, never staying within just one realm of the metal spectrum. Songs like “Just A Remain†and “Game Over†show the band’s almost bipolar musical style, shifting from verse heavy hardcore riffs, to metal solos, 2 guitar harmonies, to bass solos and then brutal breakdowns. In late 2006 they entered the studios with their signing to Southground Records and recorded their first release, an EP aptly named: “Grace Not Lost†out on Southground summer 2007, when the label debut’s 1S7L as their first band to release a fully Southground created production.
“Our band is about not quitting the struggle, not turning in or giving up, there’s always hope and you can always rectify any mistakes in your life, life is all about the fight grow and become who you really want to be†explains Nelson. “I write songs about experiences I’ve had and they basically are things that everybody our age can relate to, that’s why people take to the music so quicklyâ€. To make great music you have tu understand great music, and the members in 1 Soul 7 Lives, are true music fans, from metal, to ska, to punk and even salsa, these guys have the right set of influences to create amazing music for years to come.
