Over the last five years, the Bay Recorders Organization (BRO) has grown from a small group of self-taught sound engineers to one of the Bay Area's premiere audio recording organizations. Since 2001, the Bay Recorders have worked with nationally touring bands of all genres, helped organized and supported successful benefit concerts in historical venues throughout San Francisco, provided audio support to national civic organizations and worked to raise funds for the children's music programs at Mission Dolores School in the heart of San Francisco's Mission District.
Services include: Come to You Recordings, Aftermath Recordings, Low volume duplication, Digital Conversion, and Recording / Event Space available. Please visit the website for much more information
Beginnings
None of this would have been possible without the efforts of founder Joe Baker and Steven Fabing, whose passion for recording, preserving and sharing music of all kinds served as the impetus for the birth of BRO. As part of a close-knit group of audio engineers and music enthusiasts, they felt a deep desire to transform what was a complex and consuming hobby into an ongoing career. Using their extensive contacts throughout the San Francisco music scene, BRO convinced multiple bands they could reproduce a studio quality recording from a live atmosphere. This unique approach to supporting all types of music, along with the experience and equipment to deliver CDs encapsulating this superior sound immediately after events, serves as the foundation of the Bay Recorders' mission.
Working With Legends
The results thus far have been impressive. Since its inception, BRO has worked with members of legendary bands such as Jane's Addition (Steven Perkins), Yes (Jon Anderson), Parliament Funkadelic (Eric McFadden & George Clinton, Bernie Worrell), the String Cheese Incident (Michael Travis), Jerry Garcia Band (Merle Saunders), the Grateful Dead (Bob Wier & Vince Welnick), Talking Heads (Jerry Harrison), Hot Tuna & The Rod Stewart Band (Pete Sears), The Meters (Zigaboo Modelist), Timbuk 3 (Pat MacDonald) and The Carlos Santana Band (Carlos Hernandez). BRO continues to support folk singer/songwriter Dan Bern and jazz legend Michael Manring. BRO also works with nationally touring acts based in the Bay Area such as ALO, the Ritual, the Garrin Benfield Band, Group DeJour, Garaj Mahal, Blue Turtle Seduction, and two of San Francisco's hottest bands, Two Gallants and Tea Leaf Green. In addition to the nationally touring acts BRO also works with international tourning bands such as New Mastersounds (Leeds, Englad), Meltone (Japan), ALO (San Francisco, CA), Brett Dennen (Los Angeles, CA) and Dan Bern (Turth or Consequence, New Mexico). BRO also provides audio support for some of the country's largest independent music festivals, delivering quality recordings to gatherings with more than 10,000 attendees.
Supporting Music Education For Young People
BRO is particularly proud of its work with local community groups focused on music education for young people. BRO continues to work with Bandworks, a group of Bay Area music instructors that pool their students together to teach them band concepts as well as provide private music lessons. Working with children ages 7-17 since 1993, Bandworks brought on BRO in the fall of 2004 to record their recitals at their summer camp workshops as well as the quarterly recitals held during the school year. In February 2006, the Bay Recorders began a new relationship with Blue Bear School of Music, a 35 year-old music school based in the presidio of San Francisco.Since 2002, Bay Recorders have teamed up with Mission Dolores School to produce the "Music with a Mission" concert series. This series of events has raised funds for the school's music and choir department and has featured such performers as Mark Deutsch, Stephen Kent, the Ritual and Friends, Dan Lebowitz and Michael Manring. Held in the church's historic main cathedral, these events always result in a room full of love and beautiful sound dedicated to a deserving cause. BRO looks forward to continuing to support those seeking music education as well as those teaching it.
Supporting The Community
BRO has also made it a part of their mission to give back to the community, having helped organize benefits for Tsunami relief, as well as assistance for victims of Hurricane Katrina. BRO has also supported events dedicated to victims and survivors of breast, bone, and brain cancer, a fallen fire fighter from Oakland, and a musical event dedicated to slain journalist Daniel Pearl.
BRO Continues To Expand
BRO continues to nurture the relationships that were built during the early and continue to make many new ones, especially working towards the goal of supporting children's musical education and benefit events. BRO has expanded its services to include "BRO by Mail" - an offering of digital recordings from local San Francisco bands and other organizations via US Mail.
It is this passion and innovation that is the driving force behind the Bay Recorders Organization - dedicated to preserving and supporting all music through the art of recording.
