..justifyIn Brief: One day back in January 2002 Phil Gardner decided to make a skate video called Dumbass with his rather large JVC SuperVHS camcorder. Since starting it, it has become very popular with the local skaters of Hinckley, Leicestershire. Over 5 years on, and almost 3 years since Dumbass 6 was released, Phil Gardner and Luke Elwell are working on the 7th episode, which is going to be so much better than the previous ones. This is due to increased skill, experience, qualifications and better equipment. This will be the first Dumbass Video to be released in skate shops and sold online over the UK thanks to some distribution arrangements. The all new Dumbass, presented by Phil Gardner and Luke Elwell, is expected to hit the shelves mid/late August 2007. A release date will be announced nearer the time, along with a premier.
The Dumbass production team are:
Myself, Phil Gardner - Director, Founder, Big Cheese or whatever.
Luke Elwell - Editor, Head of Equipment, Web Designer/Website Operations.
Rob Gardner - Special Effects, Animation, Stunt Double, Tool.
Previous Dumbass Episodes:
Episode 1: The Beginning -This was our first ever video production, it took just one week to film, edit and release a 20min episode onto VHS.
Episode 2: The Next Episode -Very similar to the first episode, a few mins longer and some better footage.
Episode 3: Way Of The Kickflip -Better Skateboarding, better dumb stuff. First time for footage outside of Hinckley. Final prooduction was let down in some parts by reduced quality, due to different editing techniques.
Episode 4: Total Delamination -40mins long, better skateboarding, some new faces, good section of dumb stuff and bails. Most peoples favorite episode.
Episode 5: Lazy Skaterholics -Celebrates the 1st Anniversary of Dumbass. Plenty of skateboarding and footage of messing around on an iced over car park.
Episode 6: Skater People Live Better Lives -This was intended to be the last installment of Dumbass. This was filmed over about 20 months and was the first Dumbass to be released on DVD.
After Dumbass was over and done with at the time, filming soon began for the next skate video from Chip Productions. Originally it was intended to be a pure skateboard and BMX video, leaving all the dumb stuff behind. Since then the footage has piled up. Luke Elwell is now doing the majority of the capturing and editing, as he is now a HND Media Student.
One night down the pub, Myself and Elwell were talking about the good ol' days of Dumbass. During that conversation and realising what new equipment, techniques and software we had, it was decided to bring back Dumbass, even if it's just for one more episode, but it will blow the previous ones away!
