About Me

Kriss Kross - Jump
When I first heard this single, it blew me away. I knew from that point that this music called HipHop would change my life. I was already mad into music but that was the stuff my parents played in our house like Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and The Beatles. This new style of what they called rapping and hard beats really caught my ear. After that I would always ask my parents to buy me a CD for my birthday and sometimes they just bought me one as a surprise. It wasn't until I was 13 years old that I learned what DJing was. I was buying different HipHop magazines like The Source and in that magazine there was a article about the fathers of Hip Hop like Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash. They were talking how they started HipHop by DJing. They explained how they were spinning different breaks very fast next to each other and would get the people hype on the dance floor. That article made me realize I wanted to do the same thing. When I turned 14 years old my parents gave me my first turntable. That moment was magical to me because I could finally buy some vinyl records; that’s something I always wanted to do. The first record I bought was LL Cool J's 'I Shot Ya'. The only thing I could do with that record was scratching and cutting. That’s when I realized that I would need a mixer and a second turntable to be a real DJ. After all, the "real" DJ’s I knew had two turntables and a mixer so I began working as a paperboy and saved all the money until I could buy the missing parts of my DJ set. One of the "real" DJ’s I knew then learned me the basics of DJing. He learned me how to mix and schooled me to some of the basics of scratching. We exchanged some records and I eventually tried to make some mixtapes for my classmates. At that time I wasn’t really thinking about spinning in clubs and stuff; I just wanted to make dope mixtapes for people and entertain myself with my two turntables. After 4 years of spinning and scratching, I got the opportunity to make my debut in a club. I already did some gigs in a couple of clubs but those weren’t that serious. This time I really had to proove people I could spin otherwise they would take somebody else. Fortunately it turned out good and I’ve been spinning at their parties ever since. At these parties I really learned what DJing in club is like and what people expect of a DJ. In 2005 I made the big step from vinyl to CD and with that I really improved my skills. I’m planning to drop as many mixtapes as possible and get my name out there. I’m ready to show the whole world who I am and what I do as a DJ. Beware, 'cause DJ Wurtz is coming!!
