Sunny afternoons on horseback, a close game and a cold beer, reading fiction, writing the truth, cooking for friends, being cooked for, a good bottle of red, trying to live up to who my pets think I am, performing on stage, the many facets of human sexuality, planting seeds, pulling weeds, watching bugs, contemplating the meaning of things, witnessing my two amazing daughters become women."A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."
- Robert A. Heinlein
I'd like to meet:
The Dalai Lama, my split-apart, and the tooth fairy.
"If you are a dreamer, come in, If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer... If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire For we have flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!" - Shel Silverstein
Music:
Jazz, old-school funk and R&B for uppers, female vocalists for bringing me back down. I am a closeted country fan when I wanna feel my roots, and I have a guilty "thing" for 80's rock when my house is dirty. I have soundtracks for the road, for cleaning, for crying, instead of crying, for dancing and for shagging. Below is a sample of my eclectic tastes...
Movies:
I prefer theater, but my favorite films, I hate to choose. How about the last ones I saw, that would be easier: The Great Debaters, Juno, and a cute little film I rented the other day Sordid Lives. Epic films, mysteries, historical stories, and yes, the occasional chick flick. I love a good comedy and a good tear jerker equally. I watched the Exorcist at 13 years old and don't watch horror flicks now at all, besides life scares me shitless already.
Television:
I wish I could catch more of Dexter, The L-Word, Greys Anatomy, Scrubs, Rescue Me, Weeds, and The Young and the Restless (25 years now, thanks to my Nana). I indulge occasionally in trashy reality tv because it reminds me what the punch line is!
Books:
Last books read were Dan Savage-Skipping Toward Gamorrah and Noah Levine-Against the Stream. Currently reading Allan Carr-The Easy Way to Stop Smoking, Erica Jong-How to Save Your Own Life, John Irving-A Widow for One Year, and Susie Bright-How to Write a Dirty Story. Faves include: East of Eden, John Steinbeck,; Beloved, Toni Morrison; Watership Down, Richard Adams, Mists of Avalon, Marion Zimmer Bradley...
I love to read... any good suggestions?
Heroes:
People who stand up and speak out about injustice. People who make change and leave all that they connect with in better condition than they found it. People who understand that we are all the same and who can honor the light shining through others just as much as it shines through themselves.
