JWORK: We Are the HEART of Columbus

TRUE STORY

In an industry far too graded and controlled, Jwork Ltd was created for one purpose, exclusiveness. Through Jwork Ltd every man or woman, regardless of race, color, or creed could achieve their own personal level of greatness. Something for everyone. With an ever-expanding design team and a plethora of timeless designs, Jwork Ltd and its sister company Lady J; have continued to adhere to the demand with an endless supply of fashion artistry. The goal at Jwork Ltd is to combine the wisdom that life has given each founding partner through experience and learning, with the artistic talents and individual expression of each member of Jwork Ltd’s design team, to create a fashion label that will stand alone in a crowded industry. To create a brand that will become a way of life.
Jwork LTD. Is a men's clothing and apparel company owned and operated out of Columbus , Ohio . The company was built by 3 young businessmen- Jermaine A. Jenkins, Andre B. Wilson, and Darrell L. Hunter. Jwork has come a long way and made many strides in development but has not lost one simple notion that was key in its conception. It started from a desire for something different. During the year 2003, Jermaine Jenkins and Andre Wilson, both avid sports fans, developed an interest in jerseys, particularly those of the throwback variety that were popular at the time. The problem was that sports apparel is often created in large quantities and that did not suit Jermaine and Andre. They wanted to be able to support their favorite team or player while also maintaining their personal individuality. This desire for improvement was the spawn of early Jwork philosophy, how do we make it happen. Jermaine initiated a solution by customizing those same jerseys with his own personal twist, he began adding feature information to jerseys such as a players stats or how many championships a player has won. Soon after, Andre also began to come up with ideas that would improve the average jersey and make it rare or exclusive. The business wasn't yet realized but the buzz was out and people wanted to know where they could get this never before seen merchandise. You should sell your jerseys, is what they heard time and again. Their goal wasn't to remake other people's clothes though; their goal was to make their own. New ideas began to develop and they increased their scope, experimenting with t-shirts, jeans, and jackets. Next they created a distinct image by designing logos that would make the company more recognizable, but Jermaine and Andre still felt that they were missing one very vital part of their company. They knew that taking the game over was exactly what they wanted to do, and to do that they needed to make a name for themselves. A connection needed to made between what the business was and what it was to become. A basketball player who is unstoppable with the Jump shot, the most prolific, game changing aspect ever introduced to the sport, is said to have j-work. It seemed fitting that the company should share a similar association. A tricky play on the first letter in Jermaine's name was then accepted as a fitting moniker for a cutting edge company. Now Jwork would refer to taking over the game in more than one sense. A third member, Darrell Hunter, a business savvy, marketing professional, and long time friend was added and Jwork Ltd. was poised to assume a leadership role in today's industry. The team continues to develop their talent and perfect the company's infrastructure, always looking to add new designers and artists to the ever increasing Jwork Street Team. Mixing creative design with vibrant colors and one of a kind clothing, Jwork has an excellent chance to be a leader in retail and sports apparel for a very long time.

OUR ART WORK

*****Columbus Alive Magazine 3/6/08*****

By Brittany Kress He hasn't always been into fashion, but Jermaine Jenkins has always stood out in a crowd. "My cars have to be different, my house has to be different, my watch has to be different," Jenkins said. "That's just the kind of person that I am." It started when he took an Allen Iverson jersey that everyone was wearing and replaced Iverson's number with the Nuggets' championship records. "I didn't have the money to promote it, but it seemed like a year later, everybody in the videos was having jerseys on with different numbers and years and dates," he said. "I just laughed with my friends and said, 'It just wasn't our time yet.'" Now the North Side resident with no formal design training wears nothing but his label, Jwork Ltd., which he and partners Andre Wilson and Darrell Hunter plan to release at the start of the summer. It's all limited-run, featuring figures and patterns you won't see anywhere else, Jenkins said. The main character is a warrior king, inspired by Jenkins' and Wilson's experiences in the Army. "After I got blasted with the bomb in Iraq, my vision changed on everything," said Jenkins, who received a Purple Heart. "I've been so many different places because of the military, seen different cultures and how they dress. I just took that and wrapped it into Jwork." While Jenkins makes rounds in stores and online to keep up on what's out, he's not shopping. "I did that for too long, put money in other people's pockets," Jenkins said. Except when it comes to shoes. His collection of 100-plus sneakers covers all colors of the rainbow — because his outfits can't not match.Click here for actual article

*****Columbus Dispatch 1/10/08*****

-Read the Article and Believe-CLOTHING LINE Army veteran turns to design Thursday, January 10, 2008 3:25 AM BY KRISTY ECKERT THE COLUMBUS DISPATCHBlasted by a bomb in Iraq, Jermaine Jenkins was blind for more than a month in 2005. Now, with his sight restored and a Purple Heart in hand, Jenkins is pouring himself into what might seem an unlikely career for an Army war veteran: fashion design. "I always was interested in art," said Jenkins, 27, a North Side resident who graduated from Brookhaven High School. "I never wanted to dress like anybody else. I always wanted to be that person who stood out." He and his Jwork Ltd. team will showcase their clothing Saturday night at the inaugural Columbus Is Fashion event Downtown. The show, which will begin at 10 in the Bar of Modern Art, will feature designs from five local designers and three boutiques. Jenkins and his team -- including Andre Wilson, who served in the Army in Kosovo -- have been designing their goods for years, he said. "It went from just being jerseys (to) being a whole clothing line that we all love and that we all believe in. It's letting us get our artwork out there." Benjamin Hanley, who is running the fashion event, said he chose Jenkins for the show because of his professionalism. He is even more impressed with how the line has progressed. When Hanley first accepted Jenkins, the Jwork clothing was mostly creative T-shirts. At a recent fitting, however, Hanley said he was wowed by multiple outfits for men, along with a Lady J women's line. "They've actually come full circle in design and actually have some full outfits," he said. "They've done very, very well, in my opinion." Jwork team members still have "9 to 5" jobs, Jenkins said. "As soon as I get off work, I go home and work on the designs," said Jenkins, who is employed by iQor Inc., which provides call-center services. "I'm ready to be seen. I'm ready for everybody to know who Jwork is." [email protected] Click here for actual article
