Okay Lindon is the project of singer/songwriter Dustin Lynn Smith. Up from the ashes of the angsty-rock-and-roll bands of his youth, Smith sought a more simplistic, poppier sound. Okay Lindon's first record, Distance Learning, was recorded in his bedroom on an 8-track recorder in the spring of 2004. Because of limited recording space and equipment, Distance Learning had a much more stripped and folky sound than Okay Lindon's future releases. He played a few shows on his own, but mostly sold CDs at shows of a still-existent and largely-successful band by the name of Goodwen , a seven piece horn-rock band in which Smith was the vocalist.
Connections through Goodwen lead Smith to meet future recording partner Chuck Smith. In early 2005, Chuck and Dustin began demoing some songs that Dustin had written for the next Okay Lindon record, Steps. The two of them began tracking over the summer and the record was released in November of 2005 shortly after Goodwen announced their upcoming breakup. With Chuck Smith on the drums and sharing guitar duties, Steps had a much more layered and completed sound than 2004's Distance Learning. About this time, Okay Lindon began recruiting some members to play shows, and have been playing as a full band with rotating members ever since.
After the release of Steps, Smith began to pursue something a little different with his music and spent most of his time starting new projects. For nearly three years, he fell out of the music scene, playing a few shows as Okay Lindon here and there, and only releasing two three-song EPs. The first release was a semi-electronic project which he called Money House Blessing . The Money House Blessing EP only had three songs, but was very powerful and marked a new direction for Smith. His other release came out in spring of 2007, a more-collaborative grungier band called Makers Of . Makers Of broke up less than a month after the release of their EP.
2008 marks Smith's return back to the music scene. In August, he announced that he would be working on the first Okay Lindon record in nearly three years. "The record will be a marriage between the older, poppier-Okay Lindon sound and the more lush projects I have been into these past two years," says Smith.
