About Me

.. *********************************************************** Zac-D-Licious is truly a drummer's drummer. Born as Zachary Dawson he went from a humble trailer court home in rural Indiana to gracing the top stages in Chicago to touring North America with punk rock legends The Misfits. It all started when Zac at the tender age of 12 deciding he was going to join Jr. High band class. They held auditions and he said” I will only play drums or saxophone!” much to his mother’s displeasure. Luckily for him he couldn’t force a note out of that saxophone. When he tried the drums his eyes lit up he felt the power of hitting the drum head and rest, as they say, was history. He worked for a year and half washing dishes at a local family restaurant to save up enough money to buy his first proper drum set. Soon after when he told his dad he wanted to be a drummer when he grew up his dad made him practice 2 hours of everyday as a part of his chores! A majority of drummers become good at one style of playing and work there whole life perfecting it, this however was not the focus for Zac.Never content with one style he has played reggae with The True Jah Believers, funk with Kung Fu Coalition, classic rock in Sofa King, rap-rock with Complications, blues with Messing with Texas, metal with Molehill and Mudvein and most recently punk rock with Chicago’s Juicehead,Pink Taco, and Bill Ura Dik. If fact you would be hard pressed to find a style he did not touch over the course of his 17 years of bashing the skins. Zac has graced the stages at the South by Southwest music festival in Memphis Tenn., The Congress Theater in Chicago, and opened up for national acts such as The Misfits, Osaka Popstar (feat. members of the Ramones, The Misfits, Black Flag and the Richard Hell and the Voviods), The Addicts, The U.K.Subs, Orange, The Murder Junkies, Darkbuster, Night Ranger, Train, Tonic, Dovetail Joint and Leslie West from Mountain. Never content to hold still and stagnate Zac has within the pass 4 years moved into the production realm and recorded, mixed, and produced local Chicago artists in his home studio. In fact his first live band recording project resulted in a nationally released album JuiceheaD’s- “The Devil Made Me Do It” on Misfits Records. Some notable influences on Zac’s style would be Buddy Rich, John Bonham, Herb Alexander, Gene Krupa,Chad Sexton,Amir”Questlove” Thompson, Dennis Chambers, Clyde Stubblefield,Jabo Starks, Chad Smith, Keith Moon,Ziggy Modoleste. In short Zac’s dedication to the art of drumming has catapulted his career into national status and hopefully beyond to world recognition.************************************************ ***** Layout made by Abadón
