A five piece band that spawned from the pure love of music. The terms 'Jazz' and 'Funk' spring to mind when describing the sound but Departure Lounge are never short on fresh ideas. The main attraction to DL is their casual attitude to live music; they seem to enforce no boundaries. With a very 'oldskool' approach to performance, you can be sure to witness some real improvisation on stage. Never a clear leader in the band; they work together to 'fuse a groove' into the room. Whether it's low lights and leather seating or shuffling feet on a wooden floor; DL will always capture the mood.
So what are we about? Oldskool tradition meets the modern dance floor. We take the best of the past (and there's a lot of it) and fuse it with the freshest sound of the present. The obviously opens a lot of doors creatively, and gets a sound out to an audience that otherwise might be blissfully unaware. Who thought you'd be dancing to swing and turning 21 in the same year? Who knew that you could hear jazz merge into 170bpm of liquid funk fueled Drum & Bass all in the same set?
Well we didn't, up until about a year ago when all this madness took place. And there are many other questions yet to be answered but for now, we've got a plane to catch....
