BIOGRAPHY
The brainchild of four creative and determined musicians, The Jupiter Sound Clash is a project with a new name and a new look at inspiration. Although the name is new, Matthew Sutherland (vocals/guitar), Matthew Manders (drums), and Mark Manders (guitar) have been performing together since 2005 in the San Diego band Redefine. Christian Thomas recently joined the band on bass and together they haven’t looked back. The four piece rock group has roots in pop and soul and has been compared to Incubus, Nirvana, Coheed and Cambria, and the Smashing Pumpkins. Under the name Redefine, the band won San Diego Music Scene’s battle of the bands while “rocking chaotic groves with a melodic roar.†(Sandiegomusicscene.org 8/2006)
The band’s latest endeavor is a full length, 12 track concept album called “Paint the Roses Red,†set to be released in June 2008. Self recorded by the band, the album follows fictional musician Jason Vega through a dream of love and loss, while clues on the band’s website piece the songs’ lyrics and feel together into one man’s emotional rollercoaster. A fickle musician, Vega struggles with the choice of love over music until the choice is made for him. The highly textured songs are tattooed with Sutherland’s emotional verses and unmistakable choruses, and if you listen closely, you can hear melodica, slap bass, piano, dejembe and a quiet appearance by Carl Jung. Skipping the demo stage and jumping right into their first full length LP, the quartet is on their way to a prolific career. The band has gained a loyal fan base on their live shows, lining up crowds by word of mouth alone. Thanks to the web, that base is expanding with every new MP3 release.
The Jupiter Sound Clash is looking to follow up last year with even more success and an ever-evolving live presence. “The new name is a symbol of our new perspective of this band,†says Sutherland. “We’re more determined and more inspired than we’ve ever been.†With motivation from their growing fan base and the love of “making sound sound goodâ€, The Jupiter Sound Clash will be a force to watch in the future.
