Irie Sounds Bio
Based out of Sonoma, Irie Sounds is quickly becoming the premeir up-and-coming soundsystem and reggae label in Northern California. Founded in 2004 by Selecta Dr. Suess, the sound consisting of Suess, Robert Roots, and Zion Cub has been blazing up events and parties around California. Their first mix "Word Sound & Power vol. 1," released in February 2006, has become an underground hit, selling out of it’s inital pressings. Vol. 2 is on the way soon, complete with a whole new offering of massive tunes and dubplates. In 2006, Dr. Suess set up Irie Sounds as an international group travelling extensivley between Jamaica and California.
Irie Sounds is also known as a label that brings massive tunes from both established artists and up-and-comming artists out of Jamaica, St. Croix, and the US. The first release on the label, the Lead di Way riddim features hit tunes from artists such as Ras Attitude, General Smiley, Rocker T, Binghi Ghost, Madi Simmons, and many more. Lead di Way will be available on CD in early 2008, with select tracks available on vinyl. Our first single-artist release, Steve Steppa’s "Justice Must Come," is scheduled for a January 2008 release, and includes 17 tracks of heavy hitting roots, dub, lovers rock, and dancehall tracks produced by Suess in Jamaica and California, and voiced by Steve Steppa in Los Angeles. New Riddims are constantly being worked on with world class artists both in the states and in Jamaica.
