About Me

Jazz musician, composer, perpetual student: poetry, literature, film, philosophy, humor. I Also have a profile under "Dave Allen Quartet" where you can hear some of my music. My new CD will be released this Summer. Also stop by my website: Daveallenjazz.com"In my room, the world is beyond my understanding; But when I walk I see that it consists of three or four hills and a cloud. " -Wallace Stevens " When I'm falling, I'm doing alright; when I'm slipping, I say, hey, this is interesting! It's when I'm standing upright that bothers me; I'm not doing so good; I'm stiff... I'm really slipping, most of the time, into that glimpse. I'm like a slipping glimpser." - Willem Dekooning."One must splice oneself into some great circuit...To pass it on is everything; but without seeing the one to whom one passes it, to stretch oneself taut over landscapes and people with a hundred shining wires out to the next pole; is that not it?" -Rilke - Diaries, 1899"Keep the mind allied with the figurations of the ongoing" - A.R. Ammons ""As far as consistency of thought goes, I prefer inconsistency." --John Cage"Imagine an eye unruled by man-made laws of perspective, an eye unprejudiced by compositional logic, an eye which does not respond to the name of everything but which must know each object encountered in life through an adventure of perception." - Stan Brakhage"We commonly give the color of our notions of the known to our ideas of the unknown." - Fernando Pessoa"After the final no there comes a yes and on that yes the future of the world hangs" - Wallace StevensGet involved. My Interests

music, art, poetry, films, making people laugh, civil rights, feminism, philosophy, Buddhism, writing down the sounds I hear in my head, Tibet, Spain, the redistribution of wealth, random gestures of kindness, ontology, reparations for slavery, moving to Europe, heterodoxy, the idea of freedom, ethics, aesthetics, ascetics, animals, children, non-sequitors, polyattentiveness, epiphenemona

I'd like to meet:

I'm especially interested in people who are working, or trying to work, in the arts. Anyone who feels that "poetry is not a luxury". Anyone engaged in a search of some kind. People who are serious about laughter and compassion. People who listen to music while doing absolutely nothing else. People who love abstraction. People who think of kindness as if it's a religon. Anyone who has strong feelings about penguins. Anyone developing there own mythology. People who feel that a rain-soaked stone wall can be as beautiful as any DaVinci or Picasso. People who are polyattentive. Those who have affection for randomness and non-sequitors. People who live in trees. And I'd love to meet a few uncorrupted people who have never been on myspace.
