About Me

So, what do motorcycles and waterbeds have to do with eachother you ask?
Back in 1976, I had a motorcycle accident. Oh, don't worry. No permanant damage, your friend Bob fully recovered.
But, in a funny way, the accident led directly to the creation of Bob's Discount Furniture.
My doctor suggested that I sleep on a waterbed to recuperate from the accident.
I loved that waterbed. Best sleep I ever had.
I believed in that waterbed so much, I decided to go into the waterbed buisness...
In 1982, I took about 2,000 sq. ft. in 5 different "Wholesale Furniture" stores in New England.
I supplied the waterbeds, advertised them, trained the store's sale staff on how to sell them, and handled delivery to customers.
Things were going great....
By 1988, I had 24 concessions in 4 New England States. My buisness had boomed.
But it became obvious by 1990 that the waterbed industry was starting to change. Waterbed dealers started going out of buisness.
Thats when I got a lucky break...
The owner of "Wholesale Funiture" was a good fella named Gene Rosenburg. My waterbed buisness had done very well in his stores.
In 1990, we teamed up when Gene took a new 8,000 sq. ft. location.
And that, my friends, became the first Bob's Discount Furniture.
So there you have it, if it wasn't for my motorcycle accident, I would have never gotten on the waterbed, and never became partners with Gene.
Go figure.
