You heard the classic story about the little girl who grew up in
church singing old gospel hymns? Well Demi wasnt that little
girl - she was the one sitting on the outside during service singing
the latest R&B hits that were on the radio. The foundation of
Demis musical background was instilled by her early involvement
in the church. From that foundation she developed her unique
southern tone and she has honed her voice into a fine musical
instrument.
Even though she is an excellent singer - her first love remains in
writing. Demis writing style combines realism of everyday life
with the very essence of what dreams are made of - and melts them
together into one concept. She translates voices of the urban youth
into poetic phrases - that are understood by the masses.
Her album d-day has a diverse set of hybrid genres. Demi works with three principal production
companies: Mad Villain Productions, Ill Tribe productions and No
Exit Productions (of which she is a partner). The three groups
work together to marry the music to the words. She also teamed
up with Dexter Redding (son of Otis Redding) to produce the first
song on the album. Each producer has a unique style of production
which compliments Demis song writing style and diverse subject
matter.
The primary vision of d-day is to expose the music to the
industry. In the fast paced world of the music industry many
characteristics have been lost to cookie cutter ways of producing
and writing. This album transcends that concept. d-day takes
southern soul not to a another level but back to what it originated
as - a voice of the people by the people.
