Dude.. Where's My Van?

About Me

Carrie Biell has been moving audiences in her hometown of Seattle, Washington and beyond for over 6 years with her gentle, graceful voice and concrete, heartfelt lyrics. Her latest full length recording, “When your feet hit the Stars”, is the best yet in this young artists cannon. The soulful lyrics and nuanced instrumentation offer a glimpse of Carrie's musical growth and artistic direction.
Carrie got an early start performing at the age of 17 and released her first album, “Symphony of Sirens”, in 2001. She has always exhibited surprising depth lyrics for a singer-songwriter of her age. Her first release landed her on some of Seattle’s top stages opening for artists like Kristin Hirsh, Elleni Mandel, and Jenny Toomey. It also received regular airplay on college radio stations across the U.S.
Though she considers the Northwest her home, she was actually born in Montclair, California. Living in Orange County outside LA until age 9. Her parents’ divorce and mother's remarriage brought her to Seattle. A child of deaf parents and a mother who slowly went blind, Carrie is one of three daughters. She grew up fast as her mother depended on her more and more for help communicating with the hearing and seeing world. It's a wonder that Carrie became a musician. As a teenager her first band was formed in the 8th grade with her twin sister on guitar and Carrie on bass. The musical duo performed at school functions and small local coffee shops before Carrie branched off and started writing her own songs.
Growing up in a musically vibrant town exposed Carrie to the bands that made Seattle famous. Since then Carrie has become a regular performer on Seattle's popular stages as well as performing at various hot spots throughout the U.S. She has 3 full-length recordings under her belt with the latest expected to be out in 2007. Carrie’s song writing is layered and subtle. Over the last two years her sound has developed with the addition of Steve Norman, a talented musician who plays Pedal Steel, Dobro, Banjo and Electric Guitar. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, Steve brings a touching old style country influence to Carrie’s unique style. Performing for live shows Carrie has a backing band. Including Steve she has Daniel Hunt on Drums, Joe Woullett on bass and Katie Mosehauer on violin.
She doesn’t claim a genre but early country, blues and modern day indie rock inspire the sound. If you ask Carrie who her biggest influences are she’ll say, Loretta Lynn, Neko Case, Bruce Springsteen, Will Oldum, Johnny Cash and Billie Holiday. With her guitar in arm and her band backing her Carrie's music provides an intimate sense of mood and she can always make a noisy room stand quiet. .
