Give it to the drummer!

About Me

I've been playing the drums since I was 8 years old. Like many musicians I started playing in church, but my love for drumming didn't really start until I joined my first band in the late 80's. I was still just a kid and had tons to learn - and I still have tons to learn - but back then my knowledge of the drums was pretty much zero. I took a few private lessons, and started listening and learning from other professional drummers. I played ever since for many So Cal bands, some of the memorable bands include "Soulbelly" with Shane Mills who was nominated for an L.A. Music Award. "Fade" A band that toured the U.S. as one of the top five bands to compete for a spot to play in the American Music Awards (AMA's), and many other bands that helped me grow as a drummer and a musician. I haven't forgotten my roots though, I still play in church, and I still get together with old friends to jam and sometimes play a gig here and there, but for now, I'm having fun attempting to play Mike Portnoy's parts in my Dream Theater tribute band, "Train of Thought".

Check out my pictures from NAMM 2007

WOW! I guess the drums in the Train of Thought video below sound really good. I've been getting e-mails asking about my equipment. Well I put together the little "Tool Kit" chart below for those who are interested. And thank you for the nice compliments in the e-mails guys, I really appreciate it!

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: I'm currently playing for a Dream Theater tribute band in SoCal. Members include Tony Burnett on Guitar, Jim Morrissey on Vocals, Jeremy Meeks playing the role of John Myung, and Me attempting to play Mike Portnoy's part.
Influences: I've picked up a thing or two from so many drummers that it's almost impossible to list them all. But the drummers that have influenced my drumming the most include the legendary Steve Smith, David Garibaldi, John Blackwell, the progressive prowess of Nick D'Virgilio, Mike Mangini, Mike Portnoy, and very recently playing for Steve Vai, Jeremy Colson. Also a few drummers that might have not gotten the recognition they disserve but have also influenced my drumming include Gerson Reyes, instructor and master of Latin and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Nick Amoroso, a powerhouse of a drummer and the person whose shoes I tried to fill while playing for Soulbelly.
Sounds Like: Striving to sound like me, picking up things here and there and making them my own. That's what drumming and music are all about, creating your own sound and your own groove!

Below is a video clip of me recording Dream Theaters The Mirror.

Who said you can't Jam at church?

Once in a blue moon a movie comes along that is so good I want to recommend it to all my friends.
