About Me

Hi, folks!I ... well, I don't go on myspace very often any more. Sorry.BREAKING NEWS (11 May 2007):I am so close to being done with my undergraduate career it's unbelievable. This week, I had my generals, my orals / thesis defense, and today I turned in the Gaelic translation of my thesis. I also found out that I got a Hoopes prize for the English version, which I wrote about a corpus of waulking songs from South Uist. I graduate in less than a month, and all that's standing between me and status as a Harvard Graduate are two trifling little exams. Now, I suppose I should maybe try to do important things like, you know, finding a job for the summer and next year. Oops.In terms of who I am and what I do, though -- this is my first year back in the US after two wonderful years living on the Isle of Skye, where I spoke little to no English in a given day, sold malt whisky for a living, and sang for my supper in the pub. I write melodramatic escapist fiction, and really enjoy academia. Thanks to one of the CDs my choir put out, it always takes me a minute or two to remember that "s&m" doesn't always stand for "Schütz and Monteverdi." I sing Mozart arias when I think no one can hear me (even though I'm currently fighting to get my voice back after doing some pretty serious damage to it while I was in Scotland), and write pretty much exclusively with fountain pens. You might see me on the BBC sometime talking briefly (in Gaelic) about dragons and the muse. My family is the best in the world ever, if marginally insane (that only makes us better, honest!). I'm dating a brilliant (and wonderful) Celticist who speaks 15 languages. I'm planning to stay in the Boston area for another year before I head off to grad school (I'm hoping to return to Scotland for that part).Annnnnd, I think that's what I've got.Hi.A review of the CD I recently contributed to - They liked me! Me singing! (look for my picture under "View highlights from 16 student performances")

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who understands my current favourite of Matthieu-isms:Me: [I am happy] (in some language or another; can't remember which, but it wasn't English. Welsh or Gaelic, mostly likely, though possibly French or Spanish)Matthieu: Je bin hapus cuideachd.

Music:

Just about anything so long as it's good. (ha!)

I'd tell you, but I'm such a sap that it's a little embarassing.

Eh, don't bother with it. At least not in English -- Gaelic TV when it's on, though!
