Bio
Black Sea Burial was formed form the ashes of hard core porns demise in 2002 when kelly jones needed to leave the band, Brennan, fritz and steve had already lost a singer before and had no intention in just quitting and going home so we continued as h.c.p by adding a guitarist (Dave Bradley) Brennan and Fritz were able to take over lead vocal duties until a suitable lead singer was found then one drunk night in early 2003 Troy Jackson a singer / guitar player happened to walk in. having played gigs together in different bands and troy had hired Brennan to run sound for his band many times we knew each other pretty well so of course we grabbed him by his tighty whiteys and threw him on stage for a bunch songs (some of which he had forgotten) and it went great so as soon as we got off stage a slightly slurring , hammered fritz said U WANT GIGGG!!! troy said hummm let me think about that yesssss!! So Dave got his pink slip (he knew he was a temp.) and we worked troy into the band we have now played together for the better part of 5 years.Brennan Fritz and Steve have been playing together for over ten years and have toured the united states many times in various incarnations of this band and others before. Brennan started playing after seeing a local guitar player play rock you like a hurricane(from the band the scorpions) with his amp on ten and could not believe how cool it sounded after a few years of being self taught Brennan (as the local really good guitarist was an ass who barely show him anything, he would go as far as to turn his back as to not let Brennan see what he was doing) later he found a good local teacher by the name of Jeff Mohr from the local band DIE YOUNG and took lessons for a couple months, after high school he went on to hold a degree in music theory from Lansing community collage as well as a 1 year degree from M.I. in los angeles California .Steve is a self taught drummer who’s favorite drummers include john bodham, peter criss and vinnie paul his brother helped him get his first kit after seeing steve in the back yard with a homemade kit of trash cans, buckets and moms dinner ware steve started at a very young age and was playing in bars before he was able to see over the bar, steve developed his style from many years of playing both rock and country with his sisters boyfriends band by the time he met Brennan he was hands down the best drummer around!Fritz started playing bass in the 70s at his elementary school playing stand up bass in 5th grade band class, he as well began playing in bars before he was even allowed to get in the door but the phrase "I'm with the band goes a long way for 15 year old kids and so begin many many years of touring the U.S. in many different bar bands throughout the 80's and 90’s. one fateful day a friend of Brennans "Joel Randolph" who was singing with steve at the time dragged Brennan along to see his band which was on the verge of a break up. Brennan and Steve met and hung out and it hit off great (after discovering there mutual love for Heineken & jager) a few months went by and then out of the blue Brennan got a call from Steve saying his band had broken up and he and this bass player (fritz) were putting together a new project and he wanted to see if Brennan could come down and jam with them at the Monday night open mic night at Peppers in Kalamazoo MI. Brennan said what the hell as his band of three years had just bit the dust (K.G.B.) right off the bat we knew we had something Steve's powerhouse drumming combined with Fritz’s geezer butler on steroids bass riffing and Brennan's dimebag meets zakk wylde heavy handed thrashy volume on 11 guitar playing made for one great solid heavy hitting band .Soon they dubbed themselves Mr. Slamm grabbed Joel to sing and began playing all over Michigan and the tri state area after a while Joel decided he had had enough of drinking his entire pay and owing the bar when he was done playing for the week . Fritz at this point decided he need a break as well having played in bands on the road for over 20 years steve jumped ship to play in a band called Crutch leaving Brennan scrambling to find a gig, it did not take long for fate to intervene as Steve and the guitar player in Crutch decided they hated each other and would fistfight at the drop of a hat so again the phone at Brennans house rang. Soon Brennan and Steve were back jamming together with a new girl bass player named Danielle who’s talents on bass were mostly restricted to her playing topless well playing all the wrong notes . Singer/guitarist Kelly Jones rounded out the newest version of the band we now called Crutch.Crutch begin touring with just two practices, under there belt after there first tour (playing as many as 5 sets a night 7 days a week one string of gigs was 13 day straight!!) they were a well oiled machine rocking from west coast to east coast but soon substance problems with Danielle reared there ugly head and she was booted while Brennan took a couple of months of to get married. the band regrouped in early 2000 and grabbed up bassist Ian Bruce a more funk and jazz type bass player needless to say not a good fit!
So Brennan and Steve dragged Fritz out of his retirement and the band sounded better then ever becoming a top draw at many bars in the tri state area. In late 2000 crutch entered the studio and came out with its first 9 song demo selling over 3000 copies with no label help or radio airplay they also returned from the studio with a new name HARD CORE PORN!On the c.d. was H.C.P first hit song loved by strippers everywhere Psycho Ho which is still a crowd favorite to this day. By late 2002 kelly had tired of playing in the band and was burned out having played for more than 20 years in different bands and left in late November which brings us full circle .Troy Jackson has been playing and singing in many bands before he joined B.S.B he also plays piano as well, he is self taught and his vocal style is modeled after his favorite singer Sebastian Bach formally of Skid Row (we still kick out a few of there tunes from time to time) when Troy joined we decided it was time for yet another name change Black Sea Burial sounded pretty cool so we went with it both Brennan and Troy have taken time off after suffering from burnout because of playing the same house gig at Planet Rock from 2000 to 2007 so we are taking the band back out on the road this year and going to play every place with power outlet and a swinging light bulb , were going to get back to having fun with playing in a band again Black sea Burial has amassed a huge song list playing everything from classic 70s rock to current radio rock and metal with a few of there own original songs as well Black Sea Burial has a few songs for everyone and the talent to back it up! So see you at a club near you!!
