Grassroots Volunteer Network

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

History:
Beginning with $25 and an assortment of collected tools, a group of dedicated Hurricane Katrina volunteers formed Grassroots Volunteer Network in December of 2005. Since the, over 500 volunteers have worked with GRVN, assisting in restoring parks, churches, and nearly 350 homes along the Gulf Coast. In order to help residents rebuild their lives, GRVN volunteers worked distributing food and supplies, assessing needs, gutting and cleaning homes, repairing roofs, stabilizing floors, painting, and installing windows, doors, cabinets and tile.
What We Are Doing:
Expanding its home base in Meredith, NH, Grassroots Volunteer Network is starting its next endeavors: regional chapters. These chapters will serve as networking and training centers to prepare volunteers to react before, during and after a disaster.Such training encompasses safety procedures, tool use, debris removal, basic carpentry, and more. The goal of the regional chapter program is to have volunteers who are trained, willing and ready to go when a disaster breaks.
Chapters are maintained and driven by volunteer participation. Volunteers are encouraged to host and plan both social and training events in their area.
The first GRVN chapter is starting up in New Hampshire. Those in states nearby are encouraged to consider participating in the New Hampshire chapter and responding to New Hampshire/Northeast regional disasters. As we progress, we hope to expand chapters into all the Northeast/New England states, then outward into the rest of the nation.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is providing the general public a simple way to prepare for and volunteer during and after an emergency. To this end, our programs include:
* Training opportunities to enable volunteers to assist their communities in emergencies.
* Provide an infrastructure for volunteers to aid in rebuilding after a disaster.
* Enhance community awareness and involvement in emergency preparedness and post-emergency support.
* Educate students in disaster awareness and provide response opportunities for high school students.
* Maintain a continuously updated database of trained volunteers.
