Fat Cheerleading in itself is radical.
We are a group of Fat Cheerleaders having fun while getting a message across about body image prejudice, loving yourself, not dieting and revolting against the 50 billion dollar industries that are thriving on the
self-loathing thay have encouraged in us.
It is a powerful and amazing thing to see a group of fat women cheering and dancing and screaming and laughing, all with some sweet pom pons! Join us, start a spirit squad of your own whether it is about fat activism or not. Let yourself be heard and multiply your power by 5 or 8 or 15. The more people on your squad the stronger you are!
The Fat Action Troupe AllStar Spirit Squad was started in Feburary of 2003 at a meeting about the upcoming event FatGirl Speaks . A radical cheerleading group was suggested and everyone was enthusiastic. The cheerleaders practiced in basements, living rooms, driveways and backyards. Pom pons were ordered and T-shirts arrived and F.A.T.A.S.S. performed for the first time on May 3rd, 2003 at The Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Oregon.
