STAY BEAUTIFUL

About Me

Born on December 22, 1967, I attended Oakdale Comprehensive and later (1986-1989) University of Wales Swansea where I graduated with a 2:1 degree in history. I have one sister named Rachel. In the beginning I was basically the driver and roadie for the Manics, but after Flicker the bass guitarist left, I stepped in. More often than not I was miming on the guitar, but I was, along with bassist Nicky Wire, the lyricist of the band, and I wrote approximately 75% of the lyrics on The Holy Bible, whereas before this, Nicky and I wrote roughly 50% each. we are both credited for the lyrics of all the songs up until my disappearance, while the songs I alone wrote the lyrics for on Everything Must Go are credited only to him.1991 saw me gain notoriety when, on May 15, NME journalist Steve Lamacq questioned the Manics' seriousness at the Norwich Arts Centre. In response, I took out a razor blade and carved "4 Real" into my forearm. The injury required a trip to the hospital where I received seventeen stitches.I suffer severe bouts of depression and often self-harm mainly by stubbing out cigarettes on my body and cutting myself. my problems with eating and alcohol were well known, and I was, according to Nicky Wire, "on the verge of anorexia" when I was at my worst. After the release of the third album The Holy Bible, I checked into The Priory psychiatric hospital, missing out on some of the promotional work for the album and forcing the band to appear as a three piece at the Reading Festival. After coming out of the hospital I toured Europe with the Manics, Suede, and Therapy? for what was to be the last time. my last gig was at the London Astoria on the 21st December 1994. It ended with the manics infamously smashing their set up completely and tearing the lights down, prompted by my violent destruction of my guitar during the end of an explosive, anthemic performance of "You Love Us". a.redlink:hover { font-family:comic s
