She's no longer a newcomer to the hip hop game. Amie Coleman, aka: Kryptic is a 17 year old MC proudly hailing from Camberley, Surrey England. Her first venture into the culture actually took place on a now defunct website, rapworld.com. There she participated in text raps and battles, honing her writing skills tightly for the better part of 3 years. She went on to release an LP entitled "Diary Entry" which sold modestly. By now it was late 2005 to early 2006. With the exception of one self produced track, the beats they used were of the free download variety, and she knew that she needed to step that area of her game up if she was to be considered serious. Going out on her own, she quickly released the LP entitled 'What I.F', but this time using underground producers. She wasnt happy with this effort however, and quickly decided that she needed to release something that she deemed better than this album. After the release of 'What I.F', she found herself in a virtual limbo. She kept active by ghostwriting songs for various artists and dabbling in beat creation as well as the occasional collaboration. Also around this time, she started receiving a little notoriety as well, getting pot shots thrown at her from time to time. Little did she know that this was the beginning of her star's 'shine'. After an uneventful summer of 2006, Kryptic was approached on myspace.com by American underground producer The Amazing Rome X. He had come accross her webpage and was very impressed with both the 'hip hop' in her, as well as the brilliance of her vocals. She wasnt a rapper. She was a hip hop artist, and a purist. Rome X too was a purist, and the two quickly formed a friendship. At first, the original plan was to drop an LP with all artists that Rome had produced over the past year, with Kryptic included. But during the setting of the line-up, they expierienced egos and attitudes from a few of the better established artists. Instead of burning bridges, the two took that energy and decided to create an album of their own. They started recording in September of 2006, and the very first song was 'Be A Man About It', a song about a guy stepping up to the plate and being a man about his shortcomings in their relationship, and culminating with yet ANOTHER album 'Weapon Of Choice: The Mic' which is due to be released in the latter part of the 1st quarter 2007. The girl has worked hard, and it shows. She has a defined and very original style and flow. She is a true hip hop soldier, and together with Rome X they have taken a very strong stand against the 'dumbing down' of lyrisism as well as the capitalism of such a pure and honest art form. They then took it even further with Winter In New England Music Limited, a music production/publishing company that was started by Rome in 2000. W.I.N.E. Music LTD then went on to become the first production company signed to the internet based record company, TTH Label. Kryptic is a strong player in the Organization, not only as an artist but as a decision maker as well. No major plans are implemented without her knowledge or consent. After all, she is the Empress of Winter In New England Music LTD, and that title is a working one. Never having performed in the public forum before, Kryptic had a trial by fire. She was booked on the popular "ukflow tv Showcase" in January 2007 and performed two songs live on camera, "Be A Man About It" and "State Of Mind", a song about the state of hip hop music today. That song put Kryptic on the underground map. She has received critical acclaim and praise for her work, but this song brought even more attention to her skills. Now there are numerous personal websites that greet visitors with that song every day. There are many artists with less successes than she has had that have a much bigger ego, but she remains humble and comments visitors to her website back as much as she can. Kryptic still calls Camberley home, residing on the Old Dean Estate with her family, and attending Collingwood College where her course of study is in Information Technology and Buisness Studies. She is currently posted on numerous websites: http://www.myspace.com/krypticmtm http://www.myspace.com/theamazingromex http://www.myspace.com/winemusicltd And the record labels website: http://www.tthlabel.com (click on bands link to navigate to her page) Played on 1xtra's Homegrown Cutz show, Sunday June 3rd.
