MAHAGONY LANERaised in a single-parent household, Mahagony Lane was born on February 12, 1982 in Jersey City, NJ. Her parents separated when she was young. Her mother was gone a lot because she had to work two jobs often times in order to support her family. Ms. Lane went to Public School number 34 in Jersey City, NJ. An only child, Lane struggled growing up in the grimy streets of Jersey City. As a child, her surrounding’s were drastic there was no outlet for her. She soon saw music (specifically singing) as a way to express herself in a positive way and to vent her frustration. Even though times were tough, she maintained by getting into extra-curricular activities at school. She participated in ballet, tap, gymnastics, art, and music. She won several awards. Needless to say, she was well versed in many areas of entertainment.Mahagony father returned when she was nine years of age. Shortly after, she moved to Newark Ivy Hill section, where she went to high school (Irvington High). However, she graduated Barringer High in Newark, NJ. She fell in love with hip hop when she heard MC Lyte’s ‘Paper Thin’. From that moment, she knew that she was born to entertain. She was influenced by: Salt & Peppa, Queen Latifah, and Eric B. and Rakim to name a few.She met a man that later became her manager and years later became her daughter’s father and she joined his group ‘The Outfit’. The group created an album that was entitled ‘Outfit on the Rise’, an album that did not take off the way that they had planned. The group in general only got local exposure. However, Mahagony Lane was singled out as the hottest emcee. She was met with various offers from industry professionals. Her daughter’s father jealousy thwarted any attempts that were made in order to further her career trying to hold her back because he knew how special she was and didn’t want anyone to have her. She hit a road block. She had her first daughter in the year 2000. Even while pregnant, she continued to perform. She was relentless in her pursuit of a rap career. At that time, she worked with producer’s such as: Soul Diggaz, Shea Taylor and Gov. These producer’s did work for Beyonce, Ne-yo, Redman, etc. In 2002, she had her second daughter. Shortly after, her baby’s father was killed. She was left to raise her two daughters without a father. Luckily, she had supportive parents that helped raise her daughters. A year after her baby’s father was killed; a friend of his extended a helping hand to her. He bought her recording equipment. This helped her create a self-entitled mix tape in 2005. There were guest appearances from: Lisa Ray, Greg Street, Tiny (from Xscape), and Barry King (from Solar Radio in London). D-Moet, a Grammy award winner, helped her produce some of the tracks. Also in 05 she started her own line of clothing called M Lane, it consist of all original hand painted pieces and illustrations she has an whole apperal line from shoes to eye wear to clothing and the list goes, so she’s been grinding in the street’s getting her hustle on by selling her clothing, and that’s how she started to really make her money. In 2007 she also featured on a mixtape called power & numbers hosted by D.J Kay Slay.She has been entertaining ever since. She coordinated and starred in show’s all over jersey, her biggest show was at the ‘Robert Treat Hotel’ in Newark, NJ. Over five-thousand people were in attendance. They raved as she blew up the stage with her unique M-Lane hip-hop fashion and spit-fire lyrics. Her music is blazing radios in New Jersey, and London. Her fashion is known all over the United States and abroad. M Lane is the illest hip-hop artist/fashion designer that the industry is dying for.
